In November of 2018 Claire Taipari's regular mammogram came back all clear, but just one week later she felt a lump on her breast and decided to get it checked. After tests, three cancerous tumours were detected, a fourth one was found when she underwent surgery. Claire is keen to share her story, while a mammogram is very good, sometimes it may not detect tumours for a number of reasons. Claire alongside her husband Greg, share their story.

Master Carver Clive Fugill was part of the first student intake at the carving school based at the New Zealand Māori Arts and Crafts Institute in Rotorua. Clive finished High School in 1966 and had two career options, study anthropology at University or go to carving school, he chose the latter, but first he had to convince a board that he was Māori. The University of Auckland's Faculty of Arts has around five thousand students and over two hundred staff. Academic and Kaiārahi Dr Hirini Kaa is the driver or navigator of the Ako Arts Programme which aims to embed Māori and Pacifica knowledge into the faculty's course content. One of his designs is the MOKO guitar, MOKO is an acronym for MY OWN KIND OF…..the artist draws intricate koru patterns onto the wood, to date he's created sixty of these guitars. This week host and researcher Kahu Kutia explores the story behind Taputeranga Marae founded by Bruce Stewart (1937-2017). Stewarts daughter Pare Sannyasi talks about how her father built and created a space for people from all walks of life. Kura Te Waru Rewiri grew up in the Far North, she went to Paihia school, and then onto Bay of Islands and Northlands College. Her teacher Buck Nin recognised her talent as an artist and enrolled her at Ilam, the School of Fine Arts at Canterbury University. Kura describes this period as a culture shock, but she formed close friends through the campus Māori Club and Nga Tama Toa. As a painter her work is held in galleries her and overseas. This Ratana Church is one of six temples in the Central North Island and the Far North, all replicas of the Temepara at Ratana Pa - in Whanganui. The kaupapa of the Tairawhiti Waka Voyaging Trust is to educate as many students and visitors about the history of polynesian navigation. Chairman of the trust is Waka builder and navigator Te Aturangi Nepia-Clamp who was part of the crew that sailed from Aotearoa to Rarotonga onboard Te Aurere in 1992. The double hulled waka or voyaging canoe Tairawhiti is described by its builder as a 'floating classroom'. Te Aturangi Nepia Clamp is determined to teach students and visitors about the history of Maori voyaging and exploration. Maru Nihoniho's story can be played out like a movie - born and raised in Christchurch she was bullied and felt isolated during her years at primary school through to her time at college. Following a move from Christchurch to Wellington Maru became disconnected from the education system and left school to work voluntary at a secondhand shop. It could have played out differently but Maru's love of gaming, that's console gaming like PlayStation, Nintendo and XBox lead to a career in game design and development. It wasn't an easy road - from maxed out credit cards to on-going rejection, Maru was close to packing it all in. But while she was overseas at a gaming conference a publisher was interested in her idea, a deal was brokered and her game Cube was published for PSP. That was back in 2003. In September this year, Maru's company Metia Interactive is a finalist at the Simulation Australasia Annual Awards for her 3D puzzle game, Takaro. Maru shares her story on Te Ahi Kaa.

Hui Aroha was the name of the large scale event held in Gisborne on April 8th 1919 to welcome back men who had served in the Pioneer Battalion during the First World War. The East cost almost doubled in population with over twenty five thousand pounds raised to assist the soldiers and their families, that's around three million dollars today. Milroy was professor of Maori at the University of Waikato, a trustee of the Kohanga Reo Trust, and alongside Sir Timoti Karetu and Pou Temara, he created the Maori language school of excellence, Te Panekiretanga o te Reo Maori.
