Avengers: End Game was not just a film with a great storyline and excellent performances. It was an paralleled, unifying experience that we shared with a room full of fellow fans. We were as ONE for 3 hours and 2 minutes. We cried and cheered together...some of us even hugged it out afterwards. A movie that can move an audience in that manner, is indeed unique.
Avengers: End Game was an "end cap" for twenty-one films that fans invested time and emotion into. And what an ending it was!
In this transmission of Anomaly, we talk about everything from the passing of Peter Mayhew (the actor who played Chewbacca in Star Wars ), how End Game treated Black Widow and Captain Marvel, loving Peter Parker...in a mom way, getting a little verklempt with everyone else in the theater, and much more.
Go to the show notes for links to the things things we discussed in this episode, like Angela's waterproof mascara, Peter Gunn's PG Porn, and the MCU Recap featured at The Alamo Drafthouse.

It's taken a while for SciFi to get a foot-hold as a serious genre. Yet even now some cinematic SciFi still gets panned and under appreciated. Angela and Jen want to challenge that idea. So they have each picked an underrated Sci fi movie that got an unfair shake. Check out their second look at Passengers (2016) and Æon Flux (2005). Æon Flux is available to watch on Netflix and Passengers will be broadcast on FX starting May 3, 2019.

Star Trek Discovery: Lethe (S1 E6) Review | Anomaly Mini-skirt Cast
2017/10/26
Info (Show/Hide)
Anomaly sometimes records what we call a "mini-skirt" 'cast. This is a podcast we publish outside of our regular schedule and is usually a little shorter than a full show. And you can expect several in the next few weeks discussing Start Trek Discovery!
We need to talk about the obvious. One of the hardest things about Star Trek Discovery as a devoted fan of Star Trek is balancing your desire for some new stories from your favorite world and the fact that SciFi as a genre has come a long way in 50 years so of course, they have to change it up. I guess it comes down to - What do you enjoy about Star Trek or any SciFi, and is Discovery presenting a good story?

Star Trek or Star Wars? What Does Your Preference Really Mean?
2017/07/18
Info (Show/Hide)
The ultimate woe, the epitome of nerd rage, the most taboo of all topics is the very one that Angela and Jen set forth to conquer in this episode: Star Wars or Star Trek . Join us as we bring back this golden oldie from the Anomaly vault all the way back in 2011 where Jen and Angela approached this age-old question, not from a ‘which franchise is better’ standpoint, but instead, they looked within and asked what the preference of one franchise over the other says about a person.
So...which do you prefer and why?

The Ultimate Anomaly: A Carrie Fisher Tribute
2017/02/05
Info (Show/Hide)
In this episode, Jen and Angela return with a tribute to Carrie Fisher—a woman who was the ultimate Anomaly and someone they held a ton of respect for. They waited for a month to talk about her passing on Anomaly, because, quite frankly, the two of them couldn't record an episode without getting choked up. After they had time to digest what happened, reflect on why she meant so much to them, and re-watch her films and the Bright Lights documentary, they gave it another try. Make sure you watch the movie first...we spoil everything.

We share our thoughts on the stories, try to place them chronologically (whatever that means) in Series 4, and gush about The DoctorDonna. Anomaly Supplemental | Babylon 5, Season 5, Part 2
2016/07/10
Info (Show/Hide)
Well it’s kind of crazy how long it’s taken me to record all five seasons of Babylon 5! I was just sitting here thinking about how much in my life has changed since I started actually. It’s been really cool getting to watch through this and getting to see people responding to it. It’s been cool experiencing something new and a sci-fi show I really had no idea about before I started.
I’ll be completely honest this show doesn’t really feel like it’s ‘mine’ in the same way I feel like other shows feel totally ‘me’, but I respect this show a LOT. I respect that the characters seemed like they were always changing and developing, that they wanted to explore interesting stories and situations and that they never seem to stagnate the way some shows really can. I am definitely glad I watched it and even more glad that there were so many of you taking the journey with me.

Info (Show/Hide)
In this episode of Anomaly Supplemental, KC and Sue discuss Ursula K. Le Guin's groundbreaking 1969 novel The Left Hand of Darkness, winner of both the Hugo and Nebula Awards for Best Novel of the Year.
The Left Hand of Darkness is regularly cited in discussions of gender and sexuality in science-fiction, but also touches on concepts of interpersonal relationship, international politics, patriotism, fear, and more. It is "among the first books published in the feminist science fiction genre and the most famous example of androgyny in science fiction" (Wikipedia). And it is often on lists of the best science fiction books, and almost always on top ten lists of feminist sci-fi and/or books by women sci-fi authors. So we both felt that it was about time we read it...

2016/01/13
Info (Show/Hide)
We were saddened by the passing of David Bowie this week, and wanted to honor him by posting an episode all about the classic Jim Henson Film: "Labyrinth". This Anomaly Supplemental episode, from 2011, has been archived on our site for about five years...we thought it was time to put it up again. Among other chat—Sue, KC and Anne dive deep into the story, talk about the magic of puppetry and discuss the Easter Eggs they found in the movie. Please visit the show notes for related episodes.
Jen and Angela, from Anomaly, will be back on Sunday with a mail bag episode.

Anomaly | Star Trek Palooza / Worst of Trek: Sub Rosa
2016/01/03
Info (Show/Hide)
Get the Show Notes Here ! Angela lost her voice, so I'm flying solo this week. This episode of Anomaly features eight of my favorite Rick Moyer Star Trek parodies. I play them as an opener to a Classic Anomaly episode: Worst of Trek: Sub Rosa. Our Sub Rosa review was recorded and released in 2010 and archived on our site when we had to switch podcast feeds. If you don't remember Sub Rosa, it's the one where Beverley becomes weirdly infatuated with her recently deceased Nana's lover. Eww. Gross. Now the series is complete…sort of. We plan on continuing the Worst of Trek, but we need some Trek episode suggestions from you. They have to be funny and Spock's Brain is an easy target. :) Our next episode (on January 10) is a mail bag episode.

Anomaly Review | Star Wars The Force Awakens
2015/12/21
Info (Show/Hide)
Please see our show notes for additional content and links to referenced material. Jen and Angela FINALLY chat about their experience watching Star Wars: The Force Awakens before getting into their review of the film. The first 15 minutes are spoiler free. An alert is played about 15 minutes into the episode, to warn of impending spoils... :) There's a MINOR spoiler for Star Wars: Aftermath (no alert played in the episode), pertaining to the Empire.
Is it the best Star Wars film yet? What do you think?

Even with its flaws, Revenge of the Sith is the best of the prequel trilogy. There are reasons why we don’t hate the prequels and we chat about that this episode. We also talk about the strengths and weaknesses of Episode 3, pose “what if” questions, offer our theories and suggest an order for watching the films.

Anomaly Supplemental | Truly Outrageous! Female Heroes of Classic Sci-Fi (Dragon Con)
2015/11/24
Info (Show/Hide)
The annual "Truly Outrageous" panel on the American Sci-Fi Classics Track at Dragon Con focuses on the women of classic sci-fi who influenced the panelists as children and young adults. It's always a convention highlight, but this year was extra special... While usually a fan panel, this year we were joined by the one and only Terry Farrell (Jadzia Dax of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine) to discuss our favorite female heroes of classic sci-fi and discuss some of the bigger issues and questions surrounding the representation of women in science fiction.
