Stop Boring Me! a Chat with Kathy Klotz-Guest about Marketing with Improv
2017/04/11
Info (Show/Hide)
About Stop Boring Me!: How to Create Kick-Ass Marketing Content, Products and Ideas Through the Power of Improv
Coming up constantly with a steady stream of marketing content, stories, and ideas that inspire excitement, interest and banish boring can be challenging. Your content-weary audience is saying “Stop Boring Me!” You cannot connect meaningfully with your audience if you bore them. There’s just too much content chasing too little mindshare today. And most business marketing stinks because it is transactional, superficial and not human.
The good news: it doesn’t have to be that way because everyone is creative. Your inner kid is smart because it knows how to play. What if you could create engaging marketing content and storytelling, and generate kick-ass, fun and relevant ideas for stories, articles, branding, social media campaigns, sales presentations, and even new products? Well there is a fun way to do exactly that: by applying key concepts from the world of improvisation. Don’t worry – this is not about theatricality, so you don’t have to perform. It is about playfulness, however, and unleashing your inner kid. Bringing key concepts from the improvisation stage to your marketing, sales, branding and products page – or business stage, if you like – can help you, your team, your company and your business generate ideas that kick boring to the curb. While this book will help you be more funny, it’s focused on fun as a creative catalyst for content idea orgasms: when different things come together in a fresh, human and engaging way that makes you and your audience say “aww yeah!”
The Experience when Business Meets Design
2015/12/10
Info (Show/Hide)
Short but deep interview with Brian Solis, author of
X: The Experience When Buiness Meets Design.
Brian is a return guest and friend for many years. He has a cool job doing what I think about everyday.. helping businesses adapt to the changing world of technology and shifts in the way us human beings view the world and experience life. His day job is a Principal at Altimeter Group, a Silicon Valley research and advisory firm.
We hear a lot of fads and buzz words about what makes a good business. Some of it from research and perspective from people like Brian Solis that gets misquote and sensationalized by pundits and media. I've learned to follow the hype back to the serious source.. often leading to insights that are missed by the masses and often that source is Brian Solis.
Brian's new book is unlike his previous book. It's very much a book, not intended for a digital format and a departure from the text only format. We talked about why he did that, how it changed the experience of reading for me, and whether it's a trend.

Non-Obvious is the new book by Rohit Bhargava. It's the ultimate guide to learning how to curate ideas and see the patterns in what others miss to identify trends that can change your business or your career.

The answers to these questions may not be all that obvious. And that’s exactly the point.
For the past 4 years, marketing expert and Georgetown University Professor Rohit Bhargava has curated his best-selling list of “non-obvious” trends by asking the questions that most trend predictors miss. It’s why his insights on future trends and the art of curating trends have been utilized by dozens of the biggest brands and organizations in the world like Intel, Under Armour and the World Bank.

Using the Buyer Legend Process to Connect With Buyers
2014/10/28
Info (Show/Hide)
Finding the right question is more important than chasing the right answer
For almost two decades, brothers Jeffrey and Bryan Eisenberg have been recognized by their peers as authorities in marketing optimization, analytics, and customer-experience design. While deeply grateful for their success, they remained unfulfilled by unanswered questions. The two most common troubling questions asked by executives and entrepreneurs were, “What is the secret to selling more?” and “Why doesn’t my team get it?”
What is the Buyer Legends Process?
Buyer Legends is a business process that uses storytelling techniques to map the critical paths a prospective buyer might follow on his journey to becoming a buyer.
This process aligns strategy to brand story to the buyer’s actual experience on their customer journey.
These easy-to-tell stories reveal the opportunities and gaps in the customer’s experience versus the current marketing & sales process.
These legends communicate the brand’s story intent and critical touch point responsibilities within every level of an organization, from the boardroom to the stockroom.
Buyer Legends reconcile the creative process to data analysis; aligning metrics with previously hard-to-measure marketing, sales, and customer service processes. The first result is improved execution, communications, and testing. The second result is a big boost to the bottom line.

These techniques tripled his revenue -- in just 18 months -- and improved the quality of his business and life. Ethical Marketing with Shel Horowitz
2014/04/15
Info (Show/Hide)
Shel Horowitz is an author, international speaker, columnist, and marketing consultant. He believes that businesses can succeed by embracing principles of honesty, integrity, and environmental responsibility.
The first of his books on marketing was published in 1985, and since then he has written several other award-winning books and hundreds of articles on marketing. His focus has been primarily on ethical, green, and frugal marketing. Stressing values-based, big-picture marketing that tends to be less expensive than traditional approaches, he develops marketing methods and materials based in such guerrilla marketing techniques as forming partnerships, attracting media publicity, and using social media effectively.
Shel was still a teenager when he started doing publicity and marketing for grassroots environmental and community organizations with zero promotional budget. There wasn’t even money available for stamps, so he hand-delivered press releases on a three-speed bicycle. Trained as a journalist, he first became aware of the power of the news media when a local paper refused to print meeting notices he wrote for a controversial group—but gave extensive news coverage to its refusal. Now, for over thirty years, he’s helped businesses, nonprofits, and community groups identify their key message and get it out to the public with little or no expenditure.
He has been quoted or cited in over 70 books, and blogs at GreenAndProfitable.com. His eighth book, Guerrilla Marketing Goes Green: Winning Strategies to Improve Your Profits and Your Planet, was #1 Environmental category bestseller on Amazon, and has made the category bestseller list at least 30 times.
