Interview with Jake Ehrlich CEO & Designer of the Keyboard Platform. Check tis one out. I have already Pre Ordered mine! You will too...

We've taken the all-new BulletTrain eXpress to a whole new level. We've taken everything we learned over the years and incorporated it into this amazing new model. With the all-new eXpress, we've maintained the unmistakable and instantly recognizable BulletTrain design language, while also adding some incredible new features. We now offer 10 stunningly beautiful metalic colors, and we significantly lowered the price.

The new eXpress is much more than just an Apple keboard tray or Apple trackpad holder. The eXpress combines Apple's Wireless Keyboard and Magic Trackpad into an ultra-ergonomic and truly portable laptop-style configuration for your desk, lap or Media Center.

The new eXpress is constructed of high-strength, glass-reinforced polycarbonate which provides a much lighter, durable, and stylish eXpress. We've significantly improved the shape making the eXpress even more lap friendly, as well as adding an ingenious new "snap-in" method to attach the keyboard and trackpad. We're even offering the new eXpress in 10 fashionable colors with the silver version being only $79. All the other metallic colors from the BulletTrain Custom Shop are just $99.

  • QuickCal iPhone Video App Review 2011/06/24

Todays Review for a handy little iOS app called QuickCal

QuickCal for the iPhone makes adding entries in to ical as easy as typing in the event title, day or date and time and thats it ! quick cal will take whatever text you type and turn it into relevant event information. I will say It can take a little bit to get used to, but it ‘s actually much faster and more efficient than filling out location, time, and date fields manually.

    Syncing

QuickCal syncs directly with the iPhone ‘s own calendar database. That means that everything is local, if you are a mobile me user you will find that the data will sync across all devices in seconds.

If you are a Google user … The app will also sync with Google over Exchange, which means that all of your local calendar data is instantly pushed to Google servers, so using QuickCal is a lot like having a native Google Calendar app.

    Scheduling events

to enter a new event you simply type the details  in to the text field at the top of the screen,  all you need to do is tap on it, enter your event details, and press Done. The text field recognizes days, dates, times, duration, and locations, aside from the actual name of the event. QuickCal even parses all your text live, (which appears in the boxes below the text field.so you don’t need to press enter to check whether or not the app has interpreted your data correctly.

If you’re not familiar with how to enter text into a system like this, the developer has  included a “Help” tab in QuickCal with examples of exactly how to enter event information. The Help tab also explains smart alarms, which activate different default alarms based on how far in the future you create an event (e.g. 30 minutes for events within a week, one day for events within a month, etc.).

examples of exactly how to enter event information. The Help tab also explains smart alarms, which activate different default alarms based on how far in the future you create an event (e.g. 30 minutes for events within a week, one day for events within a month, etc.).

    Viewing events

QuickCal is really meant for scheduling, but it does show you a relatively compact list of upcoming events on the main screen, just below the text field. Tapping on an event brings up an event overview exactly like the one in Calendar.app …you will find 3 views for your entries Today, List and Month. However I find that i use the app simply for data entry and choose to view my appointments via my iCal App.

    Settings

Complete setting page where you can go in and customize QuickCal to your personal liking. However i have found it to work just fine using the default settings.

    Visit smellypuppy.com/quickcal

You can get Quick Cal in the iOS App store for .99Cents!

  • YMS Podcast 012011/03/25

I would like to welcome everyone to the first episode of the YMS Audio Podcast.

Yes that's right we finally did it. We've created a podcast to go along with your Mac show screen casts. Now there are several reasons why we did this and most of them we explain during the episode.  I think you're really going to enjoy the fact that some of the audio comments that we get we can actually play the audio files here, we can answer several questions rather than just having dead video time.

YMS audio cast is also a great way for us to communicate to our listeners while they're driving in their commute, working out on the treadmill, or walking their dog. It is just easier not to have to focus on a screen . I am really excited about this because I really enjoy just getting on the microphone and ranting all about Apple products.

I love sharing everything I learn with everyone and I hope all of you share all of your thoughts as well and this is a much better format then a video screen cast. Now we're still going continue with our weekly screen cast, this is going be in addition to YourMacShow Screencasts. Now we have a basic format that were working on. However, this is a good time for feedback and let us know what you would like to hear from the YMS podcast. So please go ahead and feel free to send us an e-mail, or an an audio comment with your ideas.

For right now we're going to go ahead and put this audio cast in our existing screen cast feed, but soon we will be changing feeds so watch for a new iTunes feed coming soon! We will be sure to keep you posted. We are going to create a new iTunes feed just for the audio shows. I sure hope you enjoy the new format. I know I am really excited to get back to our grassroots audio podcasting Your Mac Show originally started as an audio podcast and now we're back to our original plan of doing audio Podcasts along with screen cast.

So sit back and enjoy episode 01 of YourMacShow's Podcast!

  • Frenzy App for Dropbox2011/03/20

I have been using Dropbox for quite awhile. Just about every 3rd party app developer is using it for syncing. It works perfect between your Mac and iOS devices!

Well, the web syncing app just got a little bit better with "Frenzy" The Dropbox powered social network.

Frenzy allows you to share files, links and messages with your friends using Dropbox. It's a file based social network that leverages the shared folders feature of Dropbox to bring you a Twitter like stream of feed items.

I have been playing around with the Beta version for a couple days now and it really works well. Very fast way to share quick bits of information. The app simply lives in your menu bar, you click on the icon and down drops a small window. Here you can type a note, share a pic, or drag in a link. Click the share button and of it goes to your pre set up Dropbox folder.

Once you download the app you will need to set up a few system preferences, including which "Shared Folders" you want to sync with. It's That easy.

You can download a free, unrestricted beta of Frenzy from http://frenzyapp.com

  • Simple Note App Review2011/03/04

      Simply your life with SimpleNote.

With life so busy it seems I am always looking for ways to be more productive. I am a note taking machine. On a typical day at work or home, I have notes everywhere on my desk, the kitchen counter, the console of my car, never where i can find them. So then comes the iphone, ipad, Macbook and iMac. With all these tools i should able to get organized, Right? Wrong,  I have downloaded every note taking, getting organized and To Do app made! Still same results I have information everywhere, now it's just digital notes i can't find.

Then I found SimpleNote…This has changed everything! Now all my notes are in one place, easy to find and organized. As the name of the app suggests it is very "Simple" to use"

    So why SimpleNote?

The #1 Reason I am a fan is the ease of syncing between all my devices. The iphone app is very easy to use and it almost instantly syncs with my iPad & Macs. Also simplenoteapp.com allows me to pick up my notes anywhere i have access to the Web! Also the share feature again is simple and quick.

Below is a list from SimpleNote.com…

    • Your notes synchronize with your mobile device, your computer, and any modern web browser. It's automatic and secure.

    • Keep a shared grocery list with your family or housemates. Or publish some notes from your class or meeting.

    • Apply tags to your notes so you can browse them as folders, or pin important notes to the top of your list.

    • Type whatever you're looking for, and your list updates instantly. You'll never misplace an important thought again.

Now I know apps like Evernote, Things and OmniFocus do more, but thats the whole point of SimpleNote. It's for those quick easy "Simple" Notes.

Give it a try, it is a welcome addition to anyones digital life!

  • YMS-001 Intro to Mac-Finder2011/02/28

YMS-001 - Intro to The Mac OS X - The Finder

    Intro to The Finder

The Finder lets you organize, view, and access practically everything on your Mac, including applications, files, folders, discs, SD memory cards, and shared drives on your network. It is represented by a blue smiling face icon on the Dock, as shown below (clicking the Finder icon in the Dock brings the Finder to the foreground).

The desktop is the space on your screen where you see file, folder, and volume icons. When you connect a hard disk, DVD or SD memory card to your Mac, its icon shows up on the desktop and Finder window sidebars.

    Finder Preferences

Finder preferences let you configure file labels, search locations, Finder window sidebars, and hide or show hard disk icons on the desktop. To open Finder preferences choose Preferences from the Finder menu, or press Command-, (The Command key and the Comma key).

In the General tab you can configure what kind of items appear on your desktop. For example, you can have your internal hard disk appear on the desktop or not. Your hard disk will appear in the Finder windows sidebar. If no Finder window is open, you can open a new one by clicking the Finder icon on your Dock.

In the Label tab you can assign special titles to your labels. For example, you can customize the labels to be a priority level or a project name. This can make for easy Spotlight searches based on your priorities and projects.

In the Sidebar tab you can customize the kind of devices that will appear on your Finder window sidebars (changes affect all Finder window sidebars).

    Quick Look

Quick Look is a fast and easy way to see a preview of your images, documents, movies, and even Microsoft Office documents without opening them in an application.

Simply highlight an item you would like to Quick Look. Press the spacebar or click the Quick Look button in the Finder window (item 5 above). The Quick Look window will appear showing you the contents of your file. If it is a document, you can page through it. If it is a movie, you can play it, even in full screen mode. If you highlight several images, you can start a slide show of those images. Press the spacebar, Esc key, or Quick Look button again to exit Quick Look.

Tip: Quick Look also works in the Time Machine backup interface, which is a great way to check an item before restoring it from a Time Machine backup.

    Enhanced Icon View

As with Cover Flow and Quick Look, you can thumb through a Document or watch a QuickTime movie right in the Finder window in icon view.

If you have a multipage PDF document, you will see a "book binding" graphic on the left side of the PDF icon.

If you hover your mouse pointer over a multipage document and you will see arrow buttons that let you thumb through your document.

If you hover your mouse pointer QuickTime movie, you will see a play button. Click it to watch the movie play. The button becomes a pause button to pause playback. By using the Icon Size slider located to the left of the Finder window resize control, you can adjust the size of your icons all the way up to 512-by-512 pixels (which is four times larger than Mac OS X v10.5).

    Getting around

The hard disk icon in your Finder window's sidebar represents your computer's hard drive (typically called Macintosh HD). You can access everything on your Mac by clicking this icon in the sidebar to open it, and then opening any subsequent folders to navigate to whatever you're looking for. At the top level, you'll see the Applications, Library, System, and Users folders, plus a few others. Both the Library and System folders contain system-level files--you shouldn't add anything to, or remove anything from, these folders unless you fully understand what you're doing.

The Applications folder contains applications installed on your Mac. It also includes the Utilities folder with applications that are designed to support different functions of your Mac (such as Disk Utility and System Profiler).

The Users folder houses all the content for each user account on your Mac; each user has a separate Home folder that's named after his or her user account name. The active account's Home folder, the user who's currently logged in to the computer, displays a small house as its icon instead of a folder. Each Home folder contains a series of subfolders--Desktop, Documents, Library, Movies, Music, Pictures, Public, and Sites.

When you put stuff on your desktop, technically it's being stored in your user account's Desktop folder, even though to you it appears "on" your desktop. When you bring music into iTunes, your music files get stored in the iTunes folder in your user's Music folder. Likewise, iPhoto stores pictures in the Pictures folder and iMovie stores movies in the Movies folder. You can get quick access to your user account folders from any Finder window sidebar by clicking the house icon.

    Wrap Up

The idea with this ScreenCast is to provide you a good over view of the Finder (post from apple) along with this blog post you should be fairly comfortable getting around. We will dive in a little deeper in to the Finder in a couple of weeks.

Next "Intro to Mac OS X ScreenCast is going to cover System Preferences. Unless of course you would rather we cover a different topic?

Let us know what you would like to see next! it is "YourMacShow :)

    Talk to ya soon,

  • DropBox Part2 iOS Sync2011/02/24

DropBox Part #2 Syncing With iOS Devices

Today ScreenCast Covers Syncing with iOS Devices, Along with a closer look at how to keep your Mac's in Sync. We use Screen Sharing to further illustrate how to sync your data using DropBox. This really shows how the system works!

  • Keeping Your Mac Cool2010/08/27

A sure way to ruin your day would be to Drop your laptop or maybe knock over your icy cold beverage in such a way that it lands right in your key board. Now we take great measures to make sure these things don't happen.

However one area we seem to all often over look is the damage we do to our laptops by overheating them. I find myself frequently saying to myself...dang this thing is getting hot.

Now I have had a few of these laptop cooling stands before. However, I never seem to use it on a regular basis. When I was thinking of a new screencast topic I thought this would be a good review for everyone and a simple reminder that we should always be aware of our laptops temperature.

So I have a couple of tools that can help us keep our laptops running nice and cool!

First off how do we know just how hot our machine is running? Simple a $16.00 app I Stat Menus at http://bjango.com/apps/istatmenus/ . This is one of the first apps I always load on my machines. Also when I am helping friends set up their computers we load I Stat Menus , DropBox and set up a Time Machine Back up!

So an often forgotten about feature in I stat menus, is the "sensors" here is where you get all your computers temperature information, and the ability to help cool you machine down. How? You may ask...I Stat Menus allows you to speed up your internal system fans!

Now some people have a real problem with this modification. I often hear that...Mac OS X is smart enough to control the fan speed. I agree. However we have NO built system preference to control the fan speed. I Stat Menus gives you this control.

Now one word of caution. The reason Apple would you rather not mess with fan speed is the fact if you set it at very low RPM your computer will over heat. So why mess with this?

Well for one if I see my machine is running hotter than usual I will kick up the fans RPM's and watch the temp drop. also number two. Say I am recording a screen cast and my fans are running at high speed, that can be very loud.

Now the second way to help keep your laptop cool is to use a stand that allows air flow under your machine along with fans that run cool air under your machine. In this screencast we cover a nice solution made by Targus. I was able to pick up this one for only $19.00!

This is all stuff we already know. However, I thought it was important to discuss it as a reminder (kinda like wearing a seat belt) sometimes we just get lazy.

  • Mac The Ripper2010/07/27

Have you been looking for a fast reliable way to get your DVD's on to your iphone, ipad or ipod? Maybe you just bought one of those new Mac Mini's and are trying to set up a home entertainment system…or just simply want to back up your DVD collection.

This can be a very frustrating endeavor. There are a ton of application titles that say they do this. However it has been my experience that none of them do it very well.

With the exception of Mac The Ripper!

Now this App does exactly what is is designed to do. Simply extract the Video_TS files from the DVD.

The only problem is getting access to download this application can be harder the the actual "Ripping" of the DVD. With that said there is a reason for this Mac the Ripper's success is due to there transparency…Not that anything we are going to cover durning this tutorial is illegal, this has always been a grey area.

I see it as if I own the DVD I should have every right to view it anyway i choose. Also at over $20.00 per DVD I should have the right to burn a copy to use on a daily basis without the worry of it getting scratched or damaged.

The simple fact is that some people do break the rules and this is why the the MTR folks need to be so discreet about there software.

Now I been using Mac the Ripper for some time now and MTR 4.0 was recently released. Again it is quite the journey just to buy and install the software.

When i upgraded to 4.0 I was careful to capture the steps required to obtain the software which include: forum access, "gift" or purchase via Pay Pal, Installation and activation!

I have seen this referred to the "Secret Hand Shake" Now with that said this is going to take quite the effort to put all these pieces together and I will be happy to share it with you all. I just need to know If you are interested in learning this process.

If so please simply "Post a Comment" below or E-Mail me at yourmacshow@gmail.com. If we get enough interest I will put together a screen cast.  Visit www.yourmacshow.com for more info.

    Thanks Dennis

  • Total Finder Review Screen Cast2010/07/19

One of the most common Mac OS X complaints I hear from people new to the Mac is for ways to get more flexibility and power from the Finder. I have suggested using Path Finder. Basically a Mac OS X Finder replacement. Recently I stumbled across a finder plug in called Binary Age’s TotalFinder .

TotalFinder’s biggest tweak is that it gives Finder windows Web browser-like tabs, allowing you to view the contents of multiple folders within a single Finder window. These tabs—which look more like the ones in Google’s Chrome browser than those in Apple’s Safari work similarly to those in your Web browser: you can drag a tab to the left or right to change its location among other tabs; you can drag a tab down to separate it from the tab bar and create a new window; and you can drag tabs between windows.

These tabs also support Mac OS X’s “spring-loaded” feature for folders and windows. If you drag a file or folder onto a tab in a Finder window, that tab is brought to the front, allowing you to drop the item into the folder represented by that tab. This feature ends up being quite convenient with tabbed Finder windows, as it lets you move and copy files between different tabs in the same window.

A number of other useful options are available via a new screen in the Finder’s own preferences. For example, you can enable a quick-access Finder window that pops up from the bottom of the screen whenever you press a keyboard shortcut. You can also opt to prevent .DS_Store files from being created in folders; show hidden files (an option also available from the Finder’s View menu with TotalFinder installed); sort folders above files in List view; and force the green Zoom button to always maximize Finder windows to fill the screen.

Give Total Finder a try and you will wonder how you ever lived with out it!

  • Mac Many Tricks App - Witch2010/07/13

After Completing the Screen Cast on Mac OS X built in App Switcher. I thought I would share with you a 3rd App that does this just a bit better…or is it?

I Have had Witch installed for over a year now and honestly forget about. When I first downloaded it I used it quite often...then for some reason I just went back to CMD-TAB. I thought I would throw it out here for discussion. Let us know what you think. Are you a Witch user or a CMD-TAB User?

So Here is a Screen cast covering the ManyTricks.com application Witch!

  • Taking Command of Your Mac!2010/07/12

Command-Tab in Mac OS X works really well as a quick application switcher and I use it all the time, but there’s more features available within the Command-Tab application switcher than just hitting Command+Tab itself. Once you’re in the application switcher you can try some of these other commands.

Command+Tab launches the application switcher , continue holding down Command and then try:

    * tab – move selection to the right in the app list
    * ` – move selection to the left
    * h – hide the selected application

NOTE: After CMD-h Tab Back to the App and CMD-H will UN-HIDE

    * q – quit the selected application
    * left arrow – move selection to the left
    * right arrow – move selection to the right
    * up arrow – enter expose within the selected application
    * down arrow – enter expose within the selected application

Memorize these tips to master the Mac application switcher and speed up your workflow! (Note: the expose features appear to be Snow Leopard only)

  • YMS-011 Pastebot2010/05/25

Pastebot is an extremely powerful clipboard utility. You can save many items to your clipboard, sort them into folders, copy them to your iPhone’s clipboard, edit images and much more. All with this single application.

Immediately after you launch Pastebot, the item that is currently in your iPhone’s clipboard will be copied into the app. Pastebot can store both text and images. In the clipboard you can browse your clippings and copy an item to your iPhone’s clipboard with a single tap. You can also tap the arrow next to the item to view the entire thing. After you tap on a clipboard item some information will popup. If it is a text item, you will see the character count. If it is an image, you will see the dimensions. Just to the right of this information will be two buttons. One to share it, and one to edit it. With text files, you can paste the item to your Mac, search via Google, send it as an email, or move the item to a folder in Pastebots. With an image you will also be able to save the image to the photo library on your device. You can also move multiple items to a folder, or delete multiple items, using the edit button.

Pastebot also includes one killer feature, you can sync it with your Mac! Once you install the free Mac application, anything you copy on your Mac will be sent to Pastebot (as long as your device is on the same Wi-Fi network, and Pastebot is open). If you tap and hold on an item in Pastebot, it will be sent to your Mac.

The iPad has a great App for Your RSS Feeds "The Early Edition "  However it was a bit difficult to get the RSS feed from the iPad Browser. When you click on the RSS feed link in the iPad Safari Browser the link is formatted as a ".Mac Reader" .

I am sure there is an easy way around this. However I have yet to find it. So this is my temporary solution See the Attach PDF for Detailed Instruction.

    Thanks, Dennis

  • Screen Cast Dragon Dictation2010/02/04

We are trying our first ScreenCast for the iphone. On a Daily Quick Tip Subject we did...

I'm talking about Dragon Dictation [iTunes link ] fromNuance, the developers of the very popular Dragon Naturally Speaking for the PC. Nuance also provides the speech recognition engine for MacSpeech Dictate on the Mac platform.

To dictate on the iPhone you just launch the app, press the record button, and start talking. Your dictation can be a brief sentence, or a much longer treatise. Once the text has been created from your speech, it's possible to email it, send it as a text message, or put the result in your clipboard. After recording your message, you can edit the resulting text before you send it off for others to read.

It's pretty slick! When you record your message, it is quickly transmitted to Nuance servers where a speech recognition algorithm is run against your data. The resulting text is returned to your iPhone very quickly; my informal benchmarks showed that it took about a second for text to be processed on a Wi-Fi network, and less than 5 seconds over 3G. You'll need a data connection for the app to work, but having this speech-to-text capability is going to be very important to a lot of people, who will find all sorts of uses for it.

I tested the app for about a week and found the accuracy to be very good. Accuracy diminishes if you are in a very noisy environment, as I found when I tried some dictation while being driven down the interstate. There were a few errors, but they were easy to correct. To add punctuation to your text, you can say 'period', 'question mark', or 'new paragraph,' and Dragon Dictation adds the appropriate punctuation.

We have a new itunes link for our Screencasts pending itunes approval. We will keep you posted over at: www.yourmacshow.com

    Thanks, Dennis
