- The Hunger Games2012/04/05
I've made fun of The Hunger Games. More to the point, I've made fun of the avid fanship that series of books has engendered.
But has that been fair? I've dismissed them as teen books, but I haven't read a word of them.
Maybe, just maybe, I've been wrong.
To that end I have started a Kickstarter Project to write reviews, and possibly an apology, for judging this popular series of books.
Fund this, and I'll do fair reviews after reading them.
Plus, you can get some stuff. Or your name on here. So, why wait? Let the games begin!

- Howling Monkey Information2012/03/07
Ok, so here's the deal.
The Howling Monkey Reads The Comics had run on The Wiseguys website for a while (www.wiseguysimprov.com ). The archive is still there.
Now it's here. It just makes more sense. I guess. So, for now, The Howling Monkey (whether it's reading comics, doing news, or whatever), will be a part of this blog, A Loaf of Comedy.
The podcast is now available on iTunes at http://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/a-loaf-of-comedy/id73331370
Look for "The Howling Monkey" or "A Loaf of Comedy" on iTunes.
Old episodes are no longer there, alas.
Thanks, and enjoy the show!

- Leap Day Traditions2012/02/29
Happy Leap Day! It's that magical day that comes but once every four years, making it far more special than any other holiday that exists.
Most cultures have their own leap day traditions celebrated on February 29. Here is a sample:
1. In France, children gather in town squares and smoke 29 packs of cigarettes over the course of the day to celebrate.
2. In England, each city proclaims one lucky person to be the "Leap Day Mayor". The mayor is then entitled to eat his or her weight in blood pudding.
3. In Switzerland, people wear all yellow from head to toe and chase each other with sharp sticks.
4. In Germany, a randomnly selected male from each city is named "die wespe des grauens" (the wasp of horror), and he goes from house to house punching people in the throat.
5. In Botswana, children are allowed to call their parents filthy names for the day.
6. In Australia, competitors box kangaroos. The winner is deemed "The Leap Year Chum", and is entitled to impregnate any woman in the country.
7. In parts of the U.S., people celebrate with two desserts. One cake and one pie.
8. In Brazil, they have day long parades in which revelers hurl daily planners at each other.
9. In Japan, bizarre animation is prepared in which a magical bear bestows wishes on teen age girls. The difference for February 29 animations is that these tend to be a little more coherent than usual.
10. In Russia, children are allowed to have an extra bowl of borscht.
