NL SADD Podcast Episode 14 - Female Empowerment
2008/10/05
Christy Whitman and Rebecca Grado join us this week for a podcast on female empowerment. A lot of discussion is focused around the issue of competition between women to be "the fairest one of all" and how society today perpetuates that struggle. There are also a lot of other great tips in this podcast for men as well as women, so give it a listen!
Christy Whitman can be found at www.christywhitman.com .
Rebecca Grado can be found at www.rebeccagrado.com .
Both of them organize the Mother Daughter Empowerment Summit in California, held March 27-29 in 2009. More information on that can be found at www.theempowermentsummit.com .
We hope to follow this podcast up next week with an episode on males being men of character and integrity.

NL SADD Podcast Episode 13 - Natural Highs
2008/09/27
I'm posting this a day early because I might not be available early Sunday morning.
We had Matt Bellace on this week to talk about natural highs. We delve into what natural highs are, how they differ from drug-induced highs, and why they are such a healthy part of everyday life! Also, we talk about the natural highs people can get from being in an organization like SADD and why the experiences in SADD can be so powerful to people.
Matt can be found at www.mattbellace.com and occasionally on TruTV's "The Smoking Gun Presents".

NL SADD Podcast Episode 10 - Suicide Awareness
2008/09/07
Christy Whitman, John Seeley, and Dr. Joan I. Rosenberg join the podcast this week to discuss the warning signs of suicide and how we all can help curb the issue. Some questions they answer are: What are some of the warning signs? How can a person suffering from depression overcome it? How can someone concerned about someone break the ice? What are the dos and don'ts of talking to a suicidal person? What can schools, colleges, and communities do to address depression and suicide?
Also, for those affected by suicide, we give some ways to help cope with the loss of a loved one.

NL SADD Podcast Episode 9 - The History of NL SADD
2008/08/30
We're posting this a day early. If I was really suave, I'd say that this is to make up for the day late the last podcast was, but, in reality, I'll be gone for the next few days and want to get as many people as possible to listen to this episode!
A more low-key podcast this week; Lee Erickson and Cory Erickson discuss the beginnings of SADD in North Dakota and the people and events involved with the evolution into Northern Lights SADD. Also, we talk a bit about what we hope the future holds. Please take a listen as it's a pretty rich, interesting history, and there's no way I could possibly serve justice to the content with a summary on here.

NL SADD Podcast Episode 8 - An August NLAB Update
2008/08/25
This past weekend, the NLAB met up in Carrington, ND, to discuss the new Reality Check program and some information on our new Transitions curriculum. We also did a ton of filming there, and we made a podcast (albeit a short one) of what all happened out there, including a sneak peak at some new conferences and materials that'll be available this Fall!
Needless to say we had a lot of work to do at the meeting, so I hope you forgive this podcast for being late!

NL SADD Podcast Episode 7 - Cara and Her Soapbox
2008/08/17
Cara Filler and Christy Whitman joined us this week for the Northern Lights SADD Podcast. The discussion touched a bit on the issue of suicide and suicide prevention before changing over to our main topic: goal setting and achieving goals for students (and, well, their advice applies to everyone!). Then, we get off track and talk about how students learn, but it's a fun listen for sure.
You can find out more about Cara Filler at www.carafiller.com , and you can find out more about Christy Whitman at www.christywhitman.com . Thanks to both of them for being on this week.
