"LIKE A POLLING STONE" Loose Bruce Kerr parody of Bob Dylan's tune re Trump's continued drop in polls
2025/03/12

"THE BALD TRUTH" (AUDIO/Song only, NO intro), by Spud City w/ Loose Bruce Kerr 1978
2025/03/07
Info (Show/Hide)
"THE BALD TRUTH" is an early Loose Bruce Kerr original from 1973, performed LIVE by his band with his hometown friend, Steve Hoeft, SPUD CITY - Music With a Peel." They worked New England bars & ski lodges in the late 1970's.
In 1978, Spud City was invited to open a U. of Lowell in Massachusetts concert featuring Jonathan Edwards of "Sunshine" (go away today) fame. Around 3000 college students. "The Bald Truth" was featured in the middle of that set.
It's about the 1973 (and successive, including RIGHT NOW) shortages of gasoline/food/everything...eggs...and having to just get by somehow. Also about Bruce's hair which was also starting to witness a shortage in his early 20's.
The band features Bruce & Steve plus drummer Tyke Ten Eyke whom they met playing on the island of St. Croix in the US Virgin Islands and Mickey Marien on bass guitar. All 4 members sang vocals. Bruce sings lead on this one.
Bruce went on to have a solo career as Loose Bruce Kerr, opening for "Weird Al" Yankovic and with over 160 song plays on the Dr. Demento Show. He is now retired and lives in northern California with his wife and expecting new cats. Steve is also retired and lives near Boise, Idaho.
This track is without Steve's intro, just the song itself, for audio listening only, like with records in the old days. Enjoy!

Loose Bruce Kerr LIVE @Sun Legal All-Hands 1998
2025/02/20
Info (Show/Hide)
This 11-minute LIVE 4-song performance at a Sun Microsystems Legal All-Hands conference in Silicon Valley in 1998 is by Sun contracts manager, Bruce Kerr, under the moniker he used in his preceding career as a songwriter-performer, Loose Bruce Kerr.
Bruce had interrupted his earlier legal career as a legal services lawyer in Milwaukee in 1973 to go on the road and write and perform as a solo, in a duo, or in a band from California to New England to the Caribbean for 20 years.
After he resumed his legal career, Sun's General Counsel, John Croll hired Bruce in 1997. After that, John tapped Bruce to perform a short segment of his songs and parodies as an entertainment break at the Sun legal All-Hands conferences in Silicon Valley and elsewhere around the country (including the Hard Rock Cafe in Las Vegas).
Bruce stayed with Sun Legal, becoming Assistant General Counsel in 2008 before Oracle acquired Sun in 2010 where Bruce remained until retiring in 2020.
These 4 songs consist of a barbershop song arrangement about nearby San Francisco, "Java," about Sun's trademark infringement case against Microsoft at the time, "That Lonesome Road" with Bruce digitally generating 3 harmony parts triggered by his lead vocal per pre-programmed chord changes. Closing the set is one of his parodies about office life, "Black Magic Marker."
Back in the day, Bruce opened for "Weird Al" Yankovic and had over 150 song plays on Dr. Demento. Though Bruce is retired, he continues to write, record, and upload his original songs, parodies and videos to his blog loosebrucekerr.com, YouTube, and other platforms.
He lives with his wife, Linda, in northern California where they are expecting 2 new kittens.

"DO LET'S DO" live in 1978 by Spud City, music & lyrics by Loose Bruce Kerr
2025/02/03
Info (Show/Hide)
"DO LET'S DO" (live in 1978) features the band, SPUD CITY led by Bruce Kerr (later: songwriter-parodist, Loose Bruce Kerr) and his boyhood friend from hometown, Waukesha, Wisconsin, Steve Hoeft. On drums: Tyke Ten Eyck from St. Croix, US Virgin Islands, bass: Mickey Marien from New York.
This rather rough, live, recording captured at the University of Lowell is a rare one from back in the day. Spud City played gigs in the late 1970's from the top of Vermont ski lodges down to Greenwich, Connecticut and east to Cape Cod. The main stage at the University of Lowell in Massachusetts had the band doing an all-original show except for their opening number, a barbershop arrangement of "The Oscar Meyer Wiener Song." "Do Let's Do" followed that opening in front of about 3,000 college students in 1978.
Steve & Bruce play electric guitars, Tyke on drums, Mickey on bass, and all 4 sing the vocals. Bruce sings lead and the last chorus features a combo of Steve on chorus against Bruce on verse simultaneously. It's swing time, baby! (l to r: Mickey Marien, Bruce Kerr, Steve Hoeft, Tyke Ten Eyck - turn your phone 90 degrees to see full photo)

"O.J.-oh" 1995 3.5" PC diskette audio-visual, mp4 conversion, by Loose Bruce Kerr
2024/10/01
Info (Show/Hide)
Oct. 3, 2024 is the 29th anniversary of the not guilty verdict for O.J. Simpson.
During the trial that preceding summer of 1995, we released the only known 3.5” PC diskette “single” live multitrack recording of this parody song (“O.J.-0h” to tune: “Day-O”) with an accompanying computer-generated moving (barely) graphic. This was years before video became available on computers. YouTube started 10 years later, in 2005.
The diskette sold on a display rack by the check-out at Tower Records stores in Silicon Valley (Palo Alto & Campbell) at $4.99 a copy wrapped in a see-through plastic…glove (of course).
Here’s the RECENTLY CONVERTED video of that 1995 diskette PC audio-visual as reconstructed using various programs by my former Sun Microsystems engineer whiz-cat colleague, E. Michael Durbin.
The original audio-visual diskette was a collaboration of another whiz-cat engineer Lee Baxter and myself. A copy is lodged in the Computer History Museum in Fremont, California.
Enjoy this 45 rpm vinyl-era “single” release, but which came out on a red 3.5” computer diskette. With “moving pictures!” Or maybe, “quivering pictures.” Only one of its kind in captivity.
MY 1943 FORD-CHEVROLET (Loose Bruce Kerr with SPUD CITY, U of Lowell, 1978)
2024/09/24
Info (Show/Hide)
In the late 1970's in New England, from the north of Vermont down to Westport, Connecticut, throughout Maine, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts one found, if one was fortunate, the hardest working regional band in rock history, "SPUD CITY - Music with A Peel."
A creation of 2 guys from Waukesha, Wisconsin, Steve Hoeft ("Superstar Steve") and Loose Bruce Kerr, this band did Bruce's originals and just enough cover songs in wild ways to get booked into every bar, club, ski lodge and wherever anyone wanted a night of fun entertainment, flaming electric guitars, drums, bass, banjo & mandolin, comedy and satire.
"MY 1943 FORD-CHEVROLET," a car song Bruce had written back in the early 70's pointed out that, during WWII, Detroit switched from doing the latest cool cars to tanks, half-tracks, etc. The very latest models were tricked-out (cannons, machine guns), sold by the 100's of thousands (the Allies couldn't get enough) and actually conquered not just the military market, but the whole world. Certainly beat the Japanese and German models. (However, they did make a reputable comeback years later, what with their BMW's and Toyotas).
Steve on slide electric guitar and background vocals (& effects), Bruce on lead vocal and acoustic guitar, Tyke Ten Eyke on drums and background vocals, Mickey Marien on bass and background vocals.
"My 1943 Ford-Chevrolet," live, University of Lowell, 3500 college kids in a packed auditorium, 1978.

THE CICADAS ARE COMING! THE CICADAS ARE COMING! (the Russians are otherwise "occupied")
Here's a Loose Bruce Kerr song parody to a Beatles song about the co-emergence of 2 types of cicadas this summer, maybe coming to your hometown. At 64 degrees, they crawl up through the ground and onto trees & bushes where the males sing their hearts out in hopes of getting lucky!
Here's "WHEN IT'S 64."
Bruce plays the instruments and background vocals one at a time using multitrack recording invented by his town-mate (from Waukesha, Wisconsin), Les Paul, then sings live along with it for the video. "NERDLAND"
2024/03/23
Info (Show/Hide)
Silicon Valley was growing fast in the mid-1990's when I recorded this parody, 2 years or so before I found a long-term home at Sun Microsystems in the legal department.
It's to the tune of "Birdland" which had been a hit with Weather Report as well as Manhattan Transfer. It was the latter on which I based this parody, "NERDLAND."
In our garage in Mountain View (but of course) I laid down the vocals & instruments one at a time, including a digital drum machine thanks to integrated circuits developed nearby. And multi-tracked 1 part at a time onto my TEAC 4-track cassette deck thanks to my hometownie, Les Paul.
How many references in the lyrics to names of innovators, companies, etc. in early Silicon Valley days can you recall?

"YOU CAME FROM WAUKESHA"
2023/08/14
Info (Show/Hide)
Loose Bruce Kerr's poem/lyric about his hometown of Waukesha, Wisconsin
“YOU CAME FROM WAUKESHA”
by Loose Bruce Kerr
1. If you wanted water pure
Or a grand resort to tour
YOU CAME TO WAUKESHA
For a motor running true
Or a generator new
YOU CAME TO WAUKESHA
Want a hazy, lazy river
Or somebody to deliver
all your dairy and a paper to your door?
You could do worse by far
Than turning ‘round your car
and instead, YOU CAME TO WAUKESHA
2. For the yellows, reds and greens
Of the Kettle Morraine scenes
YOU CAME TO WAUKESHA
Best in sports and all the schools
The best neighborhoods and pools
YOU CAME TO WAUKESHA
Ask any stranger on the street
‘twas the path to surely beat
If you just follow your feet
you end up there
For a job or Carroll College
If you had or needed knowledge
then at last, YOU CAME TO WAUKESHA
3. If you had your head on straight
Had the finest girls to date
YOU CAME FROM WAUKESHA
If your parents loved you so
And were sad to let you go
YOU LEFT FROM WAUKESHA
Need some help from helping hands
Or some kickass local bands
or some Jimmy’s, Scrima’s, Rode’s, Schley’s and more
Take a mudbath or decline
Know...the...name...of..."Rheiney Hein”*
Then it’s your hometown and mine
YOU CAME FROM WAUKESHA
(*R.G. Hein, Waukesha Superintendent of Schools, circa 1950’s-60’s, with apologies to our CMH compatriots)

The Coachmen, LIVE AT BBG, 17June2022
2022/07/30
Info (Show/Hide)
After a lull of 7 years since meeting up last, the Coachmen, Waukesha, Wisconsin's folk song quartet from 1959 to 1965 (junior high through senior year of high school) all of 'em (Rich Reaves, Walt Galloway, Steve Hoeft, Bruce Kerr), flew back from Georgia, Rhode Island, Idaho, and California to their hometown of Waukesha, Wisconsin, to perform at their high school maestro's Memorial Service, for James Machan on a Saturday in June of 2022.
The day before the Memorial, the boys regrouped to perform as former jocks (Waukesha's legendary high school swim champions dynasty, 1958-75) and "Blackshirts" at their hometown's "Blackshirts Breakfast Group," hosted by backstroker & hometown legend, Bill Schley. Frivolity ensued as this videoclip evidences. Following breakfast, the quartet donned some of their remaining instruments to perform "M.T.A," originally by the Kingston Trio, one of their mentor groups as the learned to sing & play together as pre-Beatles young "lads." From Mrs. Kamradt's 7th grade music classroom to the present, the group has had a 63 year run.
After graduating high school in 1965, Steve went on to graphic arts, Walt as a scientist at the EPA, and Rich and Bruce became lawyers. In the late 70's, 2 Coachmen, Steve & Bruce quit their jobs and went on the road as a duo ("Winterwood"), adding bass & drums to become a rock band in their 30's, "Spud City," which played New England & Virgin Islands' resorts, bars, nightclubs and college pubs until 1980.
Following that, Steve went back to work and Bruce played clubs until 1992 after which he got a real job for 23 years. All the "lads" are now retired, but find ways to link up every once in a while. Were you there? ;)

They traveled the country in a light blue 1951 Chevy Schoolbus conversion. Landing in Vermont for a period, they recorded "DOUBLE SHOT" with a band at the U of VT whose house they were parked next to in Burlington, at an amazing studio out in the sticks. The flip side was "FREEDOM CALL," also available for download from this podcast. Soon after, Steve and Bruce added drums & bass to the show for a couple years' run in New England.

Info (Show/Hide)
"FREEDOM CALL" is a Loose Bruce Kerr song from 1974 about the 2 young American women who were hitchhiking on a truck in Turkey which turned out to have hash hidden in it. Turkish authorities threw them in jail with no process for release, and the US government, then with Richard Nixon at the helm, could have cared less.
Bruce was living in L.A. at the time and read a People Magazine story on it and wrote the tune. About 4 years later Steve Hoeft, an old Waukesha, Wisconsin buddy of Bruce's had joined him on the road, traveling the country in a light blue 1951 Chevy Schoolbus conversion, adding his vocal, banjo, and guitars to the show. Landing in Vermont for a period, they recorded "Freedom Call" with a band at the U of VT whose house they were parked next to in Burlington, at an amazing studio out in the sticks. "FRIENDS WILL BE THERE FOR YOU" - Audio MP3 is Loose Bruce Kerr's latest original song, orchestrated and sung by Bruce, one track at a time (thank you, Les Paul, also of Waukesha, WI).
"MAY I?" (audio mp3), original song by Loose Bruce Kerr
2022/02/03
Info (Show/Hide)
"MAY I?" is a modern-traditional love song by songwriter-parodist Loose Bruce Kerr with the feel of a 1930's style. The song has both 4/4 time signature sections and a 3/4 (waltz) section.
Loose Bruce Kerr lives in northern California with his wife and 2 cats. He is from Waukesha, Wisconsin (home to Les Paul who invented the electric guitar and multi-track recording). Bruce uses multi-track (32 tracks, these days) to record his vocals and instruments (many synthesized, e.g., french horns, cellos) one at a time.
He interrupted his legal career in 1973 to take 20 years off to write, record, and perform his songs, including on the road as a solo, duo (with Waukesha's Steve Hoeft) and full rock band ("Spud City" with Steve, Tyke Van Eyke and Mickey Marien) in New England in the late 1970's. As a solo, Bruce opened for "Weird Al" Yankovic and his parodies have been heard on the Dr. Demento Show over 140 times.
In 1993, Bruce resumed his legal career, ending up Assistant General Counsel at Sun Microsystems and later working for Oracle. Retired, now, he continues to write & record his songs in his garage studio and uploads video performances to youtube and his podcast loosebrucekerr.com.
His 5-part a cappella Christmas love song, "Christmas Is You" is being published, and distributed by Hal Leonard, starting holidays 2022 for college and high school choral groups.

O.J.-Oh! (Day-O) AUDIO parody by Loose Bruce Kerr 1995
2021/09/29
Info (Show/Hide)
Oct 3rd is the 26th anniversary of O.J. Simpson’s acquittal of murdering his ex-wife, Nicole.
This song and photo of the 1995 PC diskette of “O.J.-oh!” (to the Harry Belafonte tune of “Day-O”) by song parodist, Loose Bruce Kerr, was the first & only song release of its kind on that medium, including stereo audio with dynamic graphics long before the popularity of the computer video revolution a decade later. It was a collaboration between engineer, Lee Baxter of Campbell, CA and Kerr of Mountain View, CA, both cities in Silicon Valley.
The song’s audio track is a live performance by Loose Bruce but includes his multitrack recorded background instruments and vocals, a feature of his live solo act in the 1980’s and ‘90’s. He opened for “Weird Al” Yankovic and his song parodies and originals have played on the Dr. Demento Show over 140 times over the decades. “O.J.-oh!” reached #1 on that program’s “Funny 5” in May & June of 1995 as the O.J. criminal trial progressed toward acquital in October.
The diskette for sale at Tower Records locations in Silicon Valley was packaged in a clear plastic glove evoking Simpson’s lawyer, Johnnie Cochran’s courtroom statement to the jury, “If it doesn’t fit (Simpson)/You must acquit!”
Kerr went on to become Assistant General Counsel of Sun Microsystems in Silicon Valley in the 2000’s after retiring from his 20 year performing career. After 11 years at Oracle, Kerr then became a contract attorney at Seattle law firm, Davis Wright Tremaine where he works today. He lives with his wife, Linda and their 2 cats in northern California and works remotely.

"NO GOLD IN CALIFORNIA"
2021/09/03
Info (Show/Hide)
"NO GOLD IN CALIFORNIA" is a Loose Bruce Kerr original from 1992 and a nod to Brian Wilson & the Beach Boys, a group Bruce grew up on and whose harmonies he learned on.
In 1992 the U.S. was mired in a recession in the economy and dealing with the disaster in Bosnia, ethnic cleansing, immigrants, homelessness, etc. The California of Bruce's youth and idylic songs of the 1960's seemed to be fading. With the fires raging across northern California today (Bruce lives there), the same might be said about now, nearly 30 years later.
Recording on a TEAC 4-track cassette deck, Bruce played the instruments and sang the vocal parts 1 at a time, mixing down as he went. Earbuds encouraged.
Loose Bruce Kerr is an irregular feature on the Dr. Demento Show and opened for "Weird Al" Yankovic back in the day.

2021/04/24
Info (Show/Hide)
"HEAD FOR THE HILLS" (a post-pandemic song) VIDEO is now a full jazz band arrangement in April, 2021 of a song Loose Bruce Kerr composed in April, 2020. Who knew it would take a year before the vaccines started to help us toward an end to the pandemic?
To celebrate that, here's the full arrangement and performance video. The song gives a bow to the earlier pandemic in 1920-21 through its 1920's style song and arrangement. Bruce's parents grew up in the 1920's and his dad taught him songs from that era on ukelele while his mom sang the melodies.
In this video, Loose Bruce Kerr performs his song live on vocals, accompanied by his new jazz band background tracks just completed.
Bruce records his instruments one at a time, multi-tracking (invented by his hometown hero, Les Paul of Waukesha, Wisconsin). Some are real (ukes, etc.), some are synth'd (trombones, tubas, saxes, etc.).
Bruce inserted a 20-year performing and recording career into his day job as an attorney. He's been back practicing law for the last 20 years and continues to record his songs in his garage studio.
Back in the day, he opened for "Weird Al" Yankovic. He's an irregular feature of the Dr. Demento Show where his songs have been played over 100 times through the years.

the “7 Theses of Phone On-Hold”
2020/12/01
Info (Show/Hide)
...(stealing a bit here from Martin Luther in the 1500's):
The “7 Theses of Phone On-Hold”
(nailed to the virtual church door 2020)
by Loose Bruce Kerr
December 1, 2020
No On-Hold music loop may be shorter than 5 minutes before loop repeats.
The fidelity of On-Hold music must be high fidelity and at least equivalent to that experienced as long ago as 30 years on some On-Hold music systems (where did those go?).
Callers On-Hold must be given the choice of styles of music (e.g., Rock, Hip-Hop, Classical, Global, Country, Heavy Metal, Folk, Latvian Whaling Tunes, etc., a minimum of 6 styles to choose from).
No repeat word -announcements On-Hold over and over, limit: 2 at front end of On-Hold, then never again on that call. Covid-excuse announcement-repeats banished 3 months after vaccine made available.
Never, never again must the public be subjected to 30-60 second On-Hold music loops repeating forever & ever. Violations punishable by flogging with a wet noodle. In the Public Square.
Callers On-Hold to be updated on approximate time until their call is answered by a trained person per the number of callers in queue and historical time averages.
By 2023, national unemployment numbers will be greatly improved by the hiring of sufficient, trained On-Hold eventual answerers to limit On-Hold times to no greater than 5 minutes. Ever.
"I AM THERE FOR YOU" by Loose Bruce Kerr
2020/11/23
Info (Show/Hide)
"I AM THERE FOR YOU" is "Loose Bruce" Kerr's original song, a jazz-scat-big band sound.
Bruce records his songs one instrument & vocal at a time, layering to get the final song. In this one, he sings, plays bass & piano "for real," then uses his synthesizer to compose & play each trombone, trumpet, saxophone, & set of drums, one drum or cymbal per track, then mixes it all together.
"Loose Bruce" Kerr spent 20 years as a performer of music, comedy, and parodies. His parodies have been played on national TV (CNN News), radio (Dr. Demento, over 100 plays; Jim Bohannon Program, Larry King). He opened for "Weird Al" Yankovic. Eventually, Bruce resumed his earlier law practice which he had suspended and after a career at Oracle and formerly Assistant General Counsel of Sun Microsystems is semi-retired in northern California taking atty contract work from time to time.
In the mid-late 60's, Bruce was a vocalist & bass player in rock band "The 5 Bucks" which became the "Byzantine Empire" during college at the University of Michigan. Several 45's were released, the last several on Bell Records. Before that, in high school, Bruce was in a folk group in Waukesha, Wisconsin (home of Les Paul), "The Coachmen."
In the late 70's, Bruce was a guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter in the New England area rock band, "Spud City" (with Waukesha, WI's fellow townie, Steve Hoeft).
Many of Bruce's parody videos from 2006-on are viewable on youtube, as well as on this podcast site.

HOLD ME NOW - Loose Bruce Kerr original
2020/07/18
Info (Show/Hide)
"HOLD ME NOW" is a new song by Loose Bruce Kerr. While Bruce often does parodies, he also writes originals in various styles.
This one's in the mold of old Sinatra or Andy Williams standards. Using multi-tracking (invented by his fellow townie of Waukesha, Wisconsin, Les Paul), Bruce adds horns, strings, drums, etc. by synth and plays the guitars, bass, and sings the vocals.
Bruce lives with his wife, Linda, in northern California heading up toward Lake Tahoe, oh, and 2 cats (not in the yard, mostly in the house...hot!) Back in the day, he opened for "Weird Al" Yankovic, and has been played over 100 times on the Dr. Demento Show. He's an attorney and works at Oracle. (well, now from his home).

"THE WRECK OF THE GOOD BOMBA CHARGER" (Live Video, 1981) by Loose Bruce Kerr

"THE WRECK OF THE GOOD BOMBA CHARGER" (Live Video, 1981) by Loose Bruce Kerr.
In 1981 I was performing my regular seasonal gig on St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands at Sparky's Waterfront Saloon. A boat that moved passengers between the Caribbean islands down there was called the "Bomba Charger," held about 24 or so, pretty bare bones. But it got you there.
I thought I'd contrast the serious subject and tone of Lightfoot's original with a take which involved how boats sometimes had accidents down in the islands...due to insobriety re various substances. This was at a time when weed was rampant among locals, tourists, and saloon workers like me but was illegal and you actually could lose your boat, yacht, ship if contraband was found. Nonetheless, no harm in singing about it (right?)
Enjoy "THE WRECK OF THE GOOD BOMBA CHARGER."

"GORBY" (audio mp3) by Loose Bruce Kerr (1990)
2020/05/09
Info (Show/Hide)
"GORBY" (audio mp3) is Loose Bruce Kerr's original satire/parody from 1990 on the occasion of the about-to-disintegrate Soviet Union's premier's visit to Stanford U in California's Bay Area.
Bruce lived 8 mins away so it was only logical he drove there with his guitar & portable tape deck around his neck playing his pre-recorded background tracks, mounted CNN's 2 story scaffold where they were beaming via huge satelite dish live to Atlanta, and sang this song about Gorby, which was then nationally broadcast it at the end of the 8pm segment that evening.
On the 30th anniversary of the then-thawing relationship between the US the Soviet Union's Mikhail Gorbachev, Bruce wrote and recorded this song on his 4-track TEAC cassette deck, then sang and played it live at his gigs with the background tracks added behind him.
Loose Bruce Kerr is from Waukesha, Wisconsin, home to multitrack & guitar inventor, Les Paul, and now lives in northern California. After a 20 year music and performing career, opening for "Weird Al" Yankovic and having his songs played over 150 times on the Dr. Demento Show, Bruce resumed his law career he had earlier dropped and eventually became Assistant General Counsel of Sun Microsystems. He then became a lawyer and deal manager/negotiator working at Oracle which acquired Sun in 2010. He is now happily retired and continues to write & record his originals and parodies, often videoing them in his garage studio.

COME HOME AMERICA (Video/StillShot), new Loose Bruce Kerr original
2020/03/05
Info (Show/Hide)
"COME HOME AMERICA" (video/stillshot) is songwriter Loose Bruce Kerr's latest original song, recorded one vocal and instrument at a time by Bruce in his garage studio in northern California. It talks of the present state of the U.S. with its divisions, needing all of us to come together, Democrats, Republicans, independents, of any stripe, type, or individuality.
Bruce uses multitracking to provide all his desired instruments & vocals, a process invented by Bruce's hometown influence, Les Paul, Waukesha, Wisconsin.
In this recording, Bruce layered a 16 voice chorus plus lead vocal over orchestration of guitar, multiple bass viols, cellos, violins, french horns, flute, oboe, snare, timpani, & cymbals.
The orchestral instruments were done by Bruce on keyboard midi'd into a Yamaha rack synth. His main instrument is a decades-old Wechter (Made in USA...Michigan) acoustic guitar, double-cutaway.
Bruce interrupted his law career for a 20-year run as a songwriter, performer, and parodist mainly on the Dr. Demento Show (over 100 plays) and Jim Bohannon Show, plus tv and news programs use of his topical parodies (e.g., "O.J.-oh," "Gorby," "You Picked a Fine Time to Lead us, Dan Quayle," "The Leader of Iraq," "Scudbusters!"). Back in the day, Bruce opened for "Weird Al" Yankovic.
Bruce eventually became Assistant General Counsel of Sun Microsystems in northern California's Silicon Valley and today works for Oracle.

"Y2K" Parody VIDEO by Loose Bruce Kerr & his fellow Sun Microsystems employees (1999)
2019/09/02
Info (Show/Hide)
As the 20th Anniversary of “Y2K” (the “Millennium Bug”) approaches on December 31, here’s a short music parody VIDEO (set to the music of “YMCA” by the Village People, a hit song from 1978) produced in 1999 by a Silicon Valley tech giant at the time, Sun Microsystems. It was one way the company used to break the ice at Y2K planning meetings in the 6 months leading up to the event.
The tongue-in-cheek parody music video was recorded by song parodist, Loose Bruce Kerr, together with a production staff of his fellow employees at Sun
Two years prior, Sun Microsystems hired attorney Bruce Kerr. Most were not aware he was the same as “Loose Bruce Kerr,” a nationally-known song parodist who’d opened for “Weird Al” Yankovic back during Bruce’s previous twenty year performing career, before then returning to law. Early in 1999, Bruce performed for a Sun legal conference his latest parody at that time, “Y2K” (“The Western World collapsing/My car insurance lapsing”).
Over 6 months in early 1999, Bruce and a team of his fellow Sun employees were charged by their employer with producing a music video (MTV was popular at the time) to Bruce’s soundtrack and a script he quickly put together. Sun senior executives were used as extras, including cameos by Sun’s CEO, Scott McNealy and COO, Ed Zander.
Here, then, is the story of the Y2K threat as seen through the lens of a computer company dealing lightheartedly with that threat in the months leading up to 01/01/00, with the assistance of song parodist Loose Bruce Kerr.
As it turned out, only minor disruptions occurred after millions were spent by banks and other companies trying to avert disaster. With dates in many computer systems at the time represented by only two digits (e.g., 00) instead of four (e.g., 2000 or 1900), the worry was “00” would be seen by the systems as 1900, not the year 2000, and worldwide systems might shut down big time, disrupting everything from bank, commerce, and health systems to even including images of “airplanes falling from the sky.”
Later, Kerr became Assistant General Counsel at Sun and is currently an attorney working at Oracle, which acquired Sun in 2010.
CREDITS: Producer: Anna Weldon; Executive Producers: John Croll, Tony Hampell, & Jan Testarmata; Associate Producer: Jenny Quang; Director: Mark Weldon; the band consisted of Bruce’s fellow legal reps: Bass: Stephen Clayton; keyboard: Darryl Payton; percussion: Anne Tirsell; drums: Bill Lard.

"4+20" - Loose Bruce Kerr parody of Stephen Stills' "4+20"
2019/05/01
Info (Show/Hide)
"4+20" by Loose Bruce Kerr is an AUDIO MP3 parody of Stephen Stills' song, "4+20" from 1969. It's about April 20th each year at 4:20pm when pot lovers everywhere celebrate, well, pot! Together. Or alone. Whatever. Who's counting (...except on the calendar & clock).
Instead of Stills' dark picture of despair, the parody flips it to celebrating 4/20. At 4:20pm. You get the picture. Or had it decades ago.
Whether I still smoke pot or not is private, this song’s title begged for a parody of it. However, I will say I first tried pot the same year Bill Clinton did. But I definitely inhaled. Earbuds encouraged.

Oscar Meyer Weiner Song by Spud City, "Music With a Peel"
2019/04/13
Info (Show/Hide)
Oscar Meyer Weiner Song by Spud City, "Music With a Peel," -University of Lowell concert, 1978 (Steve Hoeft/guitar, Bruce Kerr/guitar, Mickey Marien,/bass, & Tyke Ten Eyck/drums.
This is how our rock road band in New England in 1978 opened our shows. For this concert, we played about 12 original songs after this opener. Big stage for us since most of our 4-5 gigs a week those years were clubs, college pubs, bars, ski lodges. But once in a while, a concert like this one came along where, instead of 4 x 45 min. sets including covers, we did an all-original show of songs written by "Loose Bruce" Kerr.
We had a band house in rural northern Massachusetts up on the New Hampshire border, about an hour out of Boston. In those days, around 3 to 5pm, 4-5 times a week, 3 cars loaded with gear would launch down that 1/4 mile driveway (if snow allowed) to drive an hour to 4 hours away in Vermont, New Hampshire, Connecticut or Mass.
In the big snowstorm of '78, we were snowed in at that house for a week, lost a lot of gigs & money, but we made up for it over the following months.
Alas, all bands dis-band (yes, I said it) and dis band did no differently. In 1979 we went back down to Steve & I as a duo, then we split in January, 1980, Steve moved to Boise, Idaho and started various bands. Bruce went to St. Thomas, in the US Virgin Islands to go solo for the next 12 years there and in California. Tyke ended up in Florida, Mickey in southern California, Bruce in northern California, and Steve in Idaho.

"THE GIRLYMAN," parody by Loose Bruce Kerr (2004)
2019/03/10
Info (Show/Hide)
"THE GIRLYMAN," (AUDIO) by Loose Bruce Kerr (2004) is a parody of "The Candyman" as sung by Sammy Davis Jr. in 1972. The parody transforms the positive Candyman who made the world glow with candy into the negative budget opponents in the California State Legislature of new California Governor in 2004, Arnold Schwarzenegger.
The Governor dubbed them, "Girliemen" in reference to a famous bit at the time on Saturday Night Live where "Hans & Franz" (actors, Dana Carvey & Kevin Nealon, respectively) performed a send-up of former body builder Schwarzenegger, using Austrian accents to put down male weaklings who didn't train, as "girlymen." In the song, the singer Schwarzenegger puts down those legislators, including at the time, Darryl Steinberg, current Sacramento mayor, as such girlymen for opposing his budget plans.
Loose Bruce Kerr (nationally: Dr. Demento Show, Jim Bohannon Show, CNN & other network segments using his parodies related to current news stories) recorded each vocal and instrument one at a time on his 4-track cassette deck during the summer of 2004. Kerr had a 20 year career as a songwriter and performer before resuming his earlier career as an attorney. Currently, he works for Oracle in Rocklin, CA. Back in the day, Kerr opened for "Weird Al" Yankovic.
His audio mp3's and videos are free for streaming or download at his podcast website, loosebrucekerr.com and on youtube. His most recent original songs and parodies are available on cdbaby.com, jango.com, and on iTunes (search on "Loose Bruce Kerr").

Info (Show/Hide)
"I MOVED MY HEART TO SACRAMENTO" (AUDIO) is Loose Bruce Kerr's latest parody, an answer song to "I Left My Heart In San Francisco" as performed by Tony Bennett.
Much has been made lately, in the press and in blogs, of the move by many people from the Bay Area to the Sacramento area, often times in order to afford less expensive housing.
Song parodist “Loose Bruce” Kerr (nationally: Dr. Demento Show; Jim Bohannon Show), himself a Bay Area resident for 33 years who moved his family from Mountain View & Morgan Hill to Roseville, a suburb of Sacramento in 2017 has released this parody. Kerr sings and plays all the instruments one at a time in his multitrack studio in Roseville, CA. Kerr is from Waukesha, Wisconsin, the home of multitrack inventor, Les Paul, who inspired Bruce who saw him perform in their hometown in 1960.
According to recent newspaper articles, Sacramento has become a nationally-recognized “destination city” for people moving households nationally, oftentimes in order to be able to afford housing.
“Loose Bruce” Kerr is currently an attorney working for Oracle in Rocklin, CA, following a 20 year career as a performer and song parodist in the ‘70’s into the 90’s. Bruce’s songs are an irregular feature of the Dr. Demento Show and Jim Bohannon show on syndicated radio & internet. Bruce opened for “Weird Al” Yankovic back in the day. His breakout song was in 1987: “Walk Like a Deukmejian,” about California’s then-governor and Supreme Court Chief Justice, Rose Bird.

"THE RALPH AND BOOF SONG" by Loose Bruce Kerr (Audio mp3)
2018/09/30
Info (Show/Hide)
Here's Loose Bruce Kerr's latest song parody, to the tune of the 1909 Yale University song, "The Whiffenpoof Song."
It is, of course, about the current Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh, and his recent U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee appearance wherein he nearly waxed poetic about his love of beer from his high school days on. Some of his Yale acquaintances are saying that love was over the top.
The Yale drinking song here becomes a vehicle for Kavanaugh and his buddies to fondly look back when that drinking included ralphing (you know) and boofing (you may not know: it's consumption of alcohol or whatever "on the back end").
Bruce Kerr is an attorney working at Oracle in Rocklin, California. He was Assistant General Counsel at Sun Microsystems and before that, had a 20 year career writing & performing music across the country and Caribbean.
His songs have been heard over 100 times on the Doctor Demento Show. He's also heard on the Jim Bohannon Show on radio and internet. He now lives in Roseville, California with his wife, Linda, who edits his song lyrics, including this one.

Bruce pre-records his background instruments in his garage in northern California, one thing at a time, then sings and plays guitar live on top of a thumb drive.
This is from his 1-hour show recently shot in a Barn in the sticks, a secluded, private location where 75-100 techies, boomers, aging hippies, and folks who love folk, comedy, country, bluegrass, blues, and harmony gather from time to time to hear live performers and consume all manner of goodies, as many of us have done for decades, and have a good time.

"I MET MY SWEETIE ON TAHITI" by Loose Bruce Kerr
2017/09/05
Info (Show/Hide)
STEREO AUDIO ORIGINAL mp3
"I MET MY SWEETIE ON TAHITI" is an original song & recording by "Loose Bruce" Kerr. It's an homage to his parents who taught him his first instrument (ukelele, by his Dad, Ken), songs from their youth in the 1920's (Ken & Opal, both), and, re his Dad's love for both dixieland jazz and barbershop quartet which he passed on to Bruce. This is Bruce playing out his Tin Pan Alley songwriter wish.
Bruce sings each harmony and plays each instrument one at a time (a digital unit allows him to affect horns & strings he can't play). It's a 1-man band (across time). ;)
Bruce took 20 years off from his legal career to write & perform music, sometimes solo, sometimes in a duo or the band, "Spud City-Music With a Peel" (Mass., VT) with his hometown buddy, Steve Hoeft. As a solo, he opened for "Weird Al" Yankovic. Then he resumed being an attorney, now working for Oracle in Northern California's Silicon Valley.
Bruce dedicates this song to his cousin, Jim Conway, who moved to the South Pacific island of Tuvalu and eventually met his sweetie, Nese Ituaso, and married her up real good.

"YOU CAME FROM WAUKESHA"
2017/01/24
Info (Show/Hide)
“YOU CAME FROM WAUKESHA”
by Loose Bruce Kerr
1. If you wanted water pure
Or a grand resort to tour
YOU CAME TO WAUKESHA
For a motor running true
Or a generator new
YOU CAME TO WAUKESHA
Want a hazy, lazy river
Or somebody to deliver
all your dairy and a paper to your door?
You could do worse by far
Than turning ‘round your car
And instead YOU CAME TO WAUKESHA
2. For the yellows, reds and greens
Of the Kettle Morraine scenes
YOU CAME TO WAUKESHA
Best in sports and all the schools
The best neighborhoods and pools
YOU CAME TO WAUKESHA
Ask any stranger on the street
‘twas the path to really beat
If you just follow your feet
you end up there
For a job or Carroll College
If you had or needed knowledge
Then at last, YOU CAME TO WAUKESHA
3. If you had your head on straight
Had the finest girls to date
YOU CAME FROM WAUKESHA
If your parents loved you so
And were sad to let you go
YOU LEFT FROM WAUKESHA
Need some help from helping hands
Or some kickass local bands
or some Jimmy’s, Scrima’s, Rode’s, Schley’s and more
Take a mudbath or decline
Know...the...name...of..."Reiney Hein”*
Then it’s your hometown and mine
YOU CAME FROM WAUKESHA
(*R.G. Hein, Waukesha Superintendant of Schools, circa 1950’s-60’s, with apologies to our CMH compatriots)

On the 25th year anniversary, Loose Bruce Kerr's comedy audio montage of "The Quake of '89" tells the story of the northern California earthquake of that year on October 17th (Bruce's birthday) through rock bands and singers, all of whom are in some way connected to the San Francisco Bay area. The piece received radio airplay in the month following the earthquake and the audio cassette's sales helped raise money for earthquake relief.
Oakland, Marin, the outer East Bay, San Jose, and of course, San Francisco are all represented. Everyone from Tony Bennett to Huey Lewis to the Pointer Sisters to the Grateful Dead to Credence to Janis Joplin to Otis Redding...they're all here to tell the story using snippets of their songs.
Loose Bruce Kerr lived in Mountain View in Silicon Valley in those days. He now resides in northern California's Morgan Hill. After 20 years of performing and writing & recording such pieces, originals, & parodies, he is now back to his original profession and is a lawyer working at Oracle in Santa Clara, CA.
Back in the day, he opened for "Weird Al" Yankovic and his parodies have been played on over 100 of the Dr. Demento Shows.

"THE BALD TRUTH" by Loose Bruce Kerr
2014/08/11
Info (Show/Hide)
a few facebook pals requested (yes, I take requests!) I reach back into the video archives for this old song of mine from 1973, and a video we shot on St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands around Carnival time of 1981. It's "The Bald Truth," about losing anything yet still winning. Steve Hoeft & I also performed it in our band, Spud City, in the late 1970's but there's no video of that, unfortunately. Here it is, on a warm island night at Sparky's On the Waterfront in 1981.
Loose Bruce Kerr is a singer-songwriter & parodist who took 20 years off from his legal career to write & perform songs across the U.S. and Caribbean. He is still an irregular feature on The Doctor Demento Show & Jim Bohannon Show. He opened for "Weird Al" Yankovic back in the day. Many of his mp3 songs & mp4 videos are also available on loosebrucekerr.com. His most recent originals (last 2 years) are available to sample or download only on iTunes & cdbaby.com.
