Who is James and what is his letter about? Often times this letter is approached as the ultimate checklist and guide to Christian behavior. Today, we will see that this letters contents are actually framed in identity. James' identity was radically changed by the identity of Jesus. When James' identity changed, everything about his life's activity changed as well. Our Promised Prophet

Today we celebrate the advent of our Promised Prophet. Prophets spoke throughout the Old Testament to give God's word to Israel and to lead them in God's way. How much of you needs to be renewed?

Why is abiding in Jesus so important? What is the endgame? It may be shocking to come to the realization that our personal salvation makes up only a little percentage of the content of the New Testament. Most of what Paul, James, Peter, and John write about centers around our need to be renewed after salvation. This is a process we refer to as sanctification. The Mission

Tomorrow is the day we have been waiting for. But what will happen when all the traditions, activities, presents, and meals are over? Many people will feel a letdown after all the presents have been opened and experience... silence. Unless we truly understand the gift of Jesus. Jesus came to fill our silence. He not only changes our lives but sustains our lives as we continue to wait for His return. The true meaning of Christmas is finding His hope, peace, and joy to be central in sustaining all of our days. And we get to fill our days with actions that spread the love of Christmas all year long.

The Shepherd’s Love

Advent of Peace

Failing Law School

After building an airtight case against our sinfulness Paul anticipates a few arguments we are all prone to. Paul had just made his point that our hearts are sinful and a just God has to hold us accountable. But are we really "that bad." We often feel that goodness is a sliding scale on which we believe ourselves to be good enough. Today Paul takes us to Law School and shows us that our relativism, perfectionism, and sincerity all fail in God's school of law.

Our Hearts are Broken

The wrath of God is upon us because of our sinful hearts! Not an exciting message… but something we need to hear. We can not know the good news without understanding the bad news. We can not respond to amazing grace if we don’t see how broken and undeserving we are. This passage is often used to point out other peoples sin. But what we find today is that Paul uses this example to raise all of our understanding of each of our desperately broken hearts.

The Gospel Calls us to Be ALL IN

When we read Romans through the filter of our personal salvation story we miss the point of the letter. The Gospel we find in the letter of Romans is bigger, deeper, and more powerful than just a brief outline of salvation. As Paul writes this letter he unfolds the truth that the Gospel is a timeless encounter between the God of the universe and sinful humanity that can’t help but pull the reader into the story of the transformative pursuit of the Gospel. This is a Gospel that calls us all to BE ALL IN.

God’s Call to Sound Doctrine and the Hidden Strategy

Titus is one of the most undervalued books in the New Testament. Paul calls Titus to reestablish order and appoint Elders to a church that was plagued with worldly issues. When we get to see the relationship between Paul and Titus we realize that the hidden strategy is discipleship. Titus is little known and not talked about much in Christian circles but he was a man of great love, maturity, dedication and commitment to God. In this book, we see how good doctrine opens the way for right living. Oh how we need this truth today.

The Fundamentals

The faith of the church in Rome was known throughout the world. Paul wrote to them with hope and anticipation to meet them one day and use this body to spread the Gospel further than it had gone before. He also knew of some division amongst the Jewish and Gentile believers in Rome. It was for these reasons that Paul wrote to the church in Rome his most complete explanation of the Gospel. Even still today, this letter serves as one of the greatest ways to know the fundamental truth of the Gospel of Jesus from beginning to end. It is as imperative for believers today to know this letter as it was for the original recipients in Rome a couple thousand years ago.

Turning From Idols

Only the King Could Carry this Weight

Have you ever owed a large debt? In this passage, we see the culmination of Jesus' work on earth and the fulfillment of several prophecies. "It is finished." As we set our eyes towards Resurrection Sunday we move through a season of contemplation. Who are we and who is our heart following? Every time we read John 18 two disciples capture our attention. How often do we consider how similar we are to Judas and Peter? Jesus calls us to follow Him but we often find ourselves consumed with treasures, running ahead of Jesus, or hiding in the shadows. If we want to see abundant life we have to die to these tendencies and truly make Jesus the Risen Lord.

Worth it All
