She also leads creative workshops for those who believe in magic like she does.

I am so excited to move forward with a vision I have had for a long time: a video version of the Creative Living with Jamie Podcast . It's a work in progress and there's a lot to learn but it is such a joy to make a start. Here's the very first episode, which features an interview with artist Sam Tucker, who uses words and images to tell the stories of her life.

About Sam Tucker

Sam Tucker is a storyteller in words and images. She is currently immersed in a long-term project, an illustrated memoir and storybook chronicling her journey through the grief of losing her partner while wandering the country on an epic road trip.

For years, Sam kept her creative dreams hidden in the shadows of her vibrant business consulting practice. The journey to embracing her artistry, the essence of who she is, was a long and meaningful one that included journaling, visual journaling, book binding, collage and various forms of writing.

The turning point for Sam, that point where she finally stepped in and claimed her artistry was nearly two years ago. Sam was part of the initial offering of the artist residency program, Devotion with Jamie Ridler. That was a game changer! Today, Sam divides her time between traveling the U.S. and finishing her memoir, Lost in Bentonia.

Janice MacLeod, the illustrator and the author of the New York Times best-selling book Paris Letters, was born in Canada and worked in advertising for many years until she decided to slip away from corporate drudgery and spend time abroad. During her time in Paris, she painted letters about her travels and mailed them to friends, who encouraged her to sell the personalized illustrated letters on Etsy. Since then, Janice has sent out thousands of letters to fans worldwide. She has also released a second Paris-themed book called A Paris Year, an illustrated journal of her life as an artist in Paris.

These are just a few of the things visual artist Elly MacKay and I chat about as she shares her journey into become a magical world maker! Elly works from the attic of her old Victorian house in Owen Sound, Canada where she lives with her husband and children. She creates unique images through using layers of paper, light and photography. Elly attended the Nova Scotia College of Art for printmaking but also had an informal education in paper arts by visiting members of the Movable Book Society by train when she was a teen. She now creates picture books and illustrates covers for novels.

Creative Living with Jamie (episode 266): Interview with Jeanne Oliver

What if good enough was perfect? What if you let yourself learn along the way? That's what artist and designer Jeanne Oliver did as she rediscovered her creative self and built an authentic creative business.

Jeanne is married to her dream maker, Kelly, and the mother to three funny and creative kiddos. She home schools her children even though she has tried to get out of it a few times. You can often find her hiking in her state of Colorado, making creative messes in her studio and finding an excuse to have another cup of coffee.

She speaks and teaches all around the country and sometimes she even gets to cross the pond. She was told that she needed to find that one thing but she doesn’t like listening to directions so she embraces many loves and that has given her a sweet mash up of family, art, teaching and design. Connecting with women and sharing that each of us has been creatively made is one of her passions.

Creative Living with Jamie (episode 264): Interview with Mario Andres Robinson
How do you pour love into a painting? That's the impossible question I asked artist Mario A. Robinson after his portraits made me cry. I'm delighted he was willing to answer this question and many more on Creative Living with Jamie.

Mario studied at the prestigious Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York. Early in his development, he began looking to the great masters for inspiration and technical insight. An avid student of realism, he studied the elemental principles of painting by exploring the work and technique of Old Masters such as Rembrandt, Vermeer and Degas. However, it was the work of 19th and 20th century American artists that provided Robinson with the strongest stylistic foundation, helping him forge and define his own artistic sensibility.

Creative Living with Jamie (episode 261): Dar Hosta James

What will it take for you to believe me when I tell you that you're creative? That's the question I start with this week before diving into a fascinating conversation with artist Dar Hosta James. Dar shares how she became an accidental artist and cobbled together a rich and diverse creative life.

Dar (Hosta) James is a painter of trees, a collage artist, a writer and illustrator of children's picture books, a creative project manager, a designer, a teacher of both children and adults, a speaker on creativity and education, a creativity life coach and a certified educator for GOLDEN Artist Colors.

Dar is the daughter of an artist with an exploration in visual arts that has been life long, self-motivated and self-taught. After a brief stint as a high school teacher, she became a stay at home mom in rural Ohio where she discovered a love of collage while spending days at home with her two, young sons though, later, she would continue working in education through writing and art as a visiting author, an artist in residence and a national speaker on creativity in education. In 2003, after a move to central New Jersey, Dar started an independent publishing company, Brown Dog Books, which became a platform for her own illustrated children’s books. Of her life as an artist, she says, “Art has become a metaphor for my life… my life has become a metaphor for my art… in both areas, I try to look for what is working and how to make it all more fun. The two feed each other."

Creative Living with Jamie (episode 260): Oto Kano
What if you left the shoulds behind in favour of what comes easily? That's exactly what Oto Kano did when she decided to become an artist. Step by step, she moved from a life full of shoulds to one that worked with her bipolar instead of against it. In this episode, Oto shares how she made the transition from feeling guilty about doing what she loved to truly owning her gifts.

Oto Kano is a Japanese-British abstract painter and jewellery designer based in Edinburgh, Scotland. Her work focuses on encapsulating chance encounter of colours, and her bipolar. She paints the energy she sees in her mind during depression and mania. She moved away from her university lecturing job teaching computer science to becoming an artist at 36, in order to follow a creative life that worked with her bipolar, not against it.

This Week on Creative Living with Jamie: Dara Dines, artist and expressive arts facilitator
Dara Dines designs and facilitates expressive arts & nature based workshops that invite you to reconnect with yourself while creating with others.

She has a degree in Fine Arts & Business from Concordia University in Montreal, and a certificate in Expressive Arts Training from The Prairie Institute of Expressive Arts Therapy in Alberta. Her studies ignited her interest in collage, sculpture & creating installation pieces. She is also a Registered Expressive Arts Consultant/Educator with Ieata. Dara got her start teaching art classes such as stained glass & picture framing. While teaching in South Korea and Japan for five years, she explored and integrated many forms of art into her classes. She has since been in the field of mental health & wellness, creating and facilitating a wide variety of groups. In the past few years, she has had the exciting opportunity of stepping into the role of training others to use Expressive Arts in their own work. And now her first e-course is almost ready to launch! Dara was able to bring Spirit Doll with a Story into being after taking part in the Circe Circle at Jamie Ridler Studios.
