Our Lone Star story of the day: Today we will talk with conservative movement warrior Jim Pfaff and get us all reacquainted with one of the oldest and most prestigious conservative organizations – it turns 50 this year – The Conservative Caucus . Many of you will remember its weekly television show, Conservative Roundtable , hosted by founder Howard Phillips – I was a viewer.

About issue polling versus candidate and party support: Data shows me that a very large plurality of voters, in this case in swing states, really have little to no idea of the positions and action of parties and candidates on the issues those same people say are most important. Here is the detailed survey data I was working from and here is the data from the North Carolina polling.

More on the Lubbock County fight to stop a big tax increase . Some media get it right, others let the pompous Curtis Parrish feed a misleading line. And while Parrish says it would be terrible to not raise taxes, Tarrant County has already passed a big tax cut . Now, the City of Fort Worth has told the city manager to redo the budget and provide a tax cut there too !
Also from Tarrant County, public schools show they are about greed for money above all – claim the move to appraise residential property every two years, instead of every year, would destroy them and harm children!
Dallas Fed: Texas service sector growth modest; retail still in decline .

Episode 3551: Jordan Rackler on effort to stop Lubbock Co. tax increase; Flores tells the old property tax lie – Pratt on Texas 8/26/2024
2024/08/26
Info (Show/Hide)
The news of Texas covered today includes:
Our Lone Star story of the day: Lies from the dais in Lubbock County! For almost two decades I have spoken and written about the lies told to voters by local officeholders, often then repeated by local media, about property taxes. There are many who still do not believe me that elected officials openly lie about who it is that raises their property taxes and try to finger the appraisal districts as the primary culprit.
Today, as the courageous fight kicks off by Lubbock County’s only two conservative commissioners to stop yet another big tax increase, a longtime Lubbock County commissioner, Gilbert Flores of Precinct 3, told the big lie to those present, the lie I have been documenting for nearly twenty years!
I also interview Lubbock County Commissioner Jordan Rackler about the proposed tax increase and his push back on it.

Info (Show/Hide)
The news of Texas covered today includes:
Our Lone Star story of the day: The Texas Supreme Court has agreed to hear an expedited appeal from Attorney General Paxton in the case of the church-affiliated Annunciation House in El Paso. This is the group that has fought to keep its records secret related to its work with illegal immigrants.
And, Texas is leading 16 states in suing the Biden/Harris Administration over its rule on immigration that is well outside the bounds of what the law allows that further incentivizes and rewards illegal immigration into these United States.

Texas House Speaker, for now, Dade Phelan makes huge move to save his speakership ; brings in Texas top lobbyist (and top casino gambling lobbyist) to be his Chief of Staff. Episode 3547: Demagoguery: Fake story of registering illegals outside DPS offices to vote | Truth on Tx polling numbers – Pratt on Texas 8/22/2024
2024/08/22
Info (Show/Hide)
The news of Texas covered today includes:
Our Lone Star story of the day: Reports abound, investigations launched , actions taken – all for a story that didn’t read as legit from the beginning . My first take was why the heck aren’t Republicans out registering voters too!?
There is nothing illegal about registering voters outside of a DPS office and it doesn’t matter if they could have registered inside as well. And, how in the heck would an observer know if the claimed groups were engaged in registering non-citizens? Even the original, very flawed and wrong report, did not make that allegation, it simply said “immigrants.” Some of the hardest working Republicans I know are immigrants including my wife.

Texas press tries to rope-a-dope you on Trump versus Harris polling in the Lone Star State. Take this headline: Kamala Harris cuts Donald Trump’s lead in Texas in half, poll finds . Episode 3545: Palo Pinto County’s un-American electioneering regulations stopped by 5th Circuit, for now – Pratt on Texas 8/19/2024
2024/08/19
Info (Show/Hide)
The news of Texas covered today includes:
Our Lone Star story of the day: After the home town RINO whiner, Rep. Glenn Rogers, was defeated in the Republican Primary this year, his Palo Pinto County commissioners court pals passed a slate of “electioneering regulations” designed to restrict active conservative opposition in the county. Conservatives sued and the courthouse kings got an early win in U.S. District Court but now the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals has handed the county a big loss, for now:
“For the reasons herein, we conclude that the district court erred in denying Plaintiffs’ motion for a preliminary injunction. We thus VACATE the district court’s judgment and order, GRANT a preliminary injunction of the Regulations in their entirety, and REMAND for further proceedings consistent with this opinion.”

Episode 3543: Admission of guilt in Denton ISD electioneering case | Lawyers lose big payday in Paxton case – Pratt on Texas 8/15/2024
2024/08/15
Info (Show/Hide)
The news of Texas covered today includes:
Our Lone Star story of the day: The insider political deal all those years ago to indict Ken Paxton on securities fraud and then work to never let it come to trial was a political hit that blew up. Now, it has also blown up on the private lawyers that were uniquely brought in to prosecute, maybe persecute is the better word, and promised a fat, unusual billing rate for their time .

Episode 3542: Rep. Burrows goes after State Fair, ignored same issue at home | GM sued by Texas for good reason – Pratt on Texas 8/14/2024
2024/08/14
Info (Show/Hide)
The news of Texas covered today includes:
Our Lone Star story of the day: The rightful indignation over the State Fair of Texas deciding to ban licensed concealed carry holders from having their guns at the fair, over an incident that demonstrated the need for such, is warranted by all involved.
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is right to go after the City of Dallas over the issue and legislator are right to push the State Fair board to get back to the right policy of allowing licensed concealed carry.
What bothers me is state Rep. Dustin Burrows of Lubbock leading the rhetoric in this matter in the state press when his home town’s large and historic Panhandle-South Plains Fair adopted the exact same policy several years ago. Where is all the pressure and press from Burrows on the same situation in Lubbock? One might think that getting more state press notice to move up the leadership chain in the House might be more important to Burrows than actually dealing with issues at home.

Episode 3541: “Move” if you don’t like paying higher taxes annually, says Lubbock Co. Judge Curtis Parrish to citizens – Pratt on Texas 8/13/2024
2024/08/13
Info (Show/Hide)
The news of Texas covered today includes:
Our Lone Star story of the day: Lubbock County Judge Curtis Parrish tells citizens they should “move” if they do not want to pay higher property taxes every year . He also tells Commissioner Jason Corley that the commissioner is only hearing from a small minority of voters opposing tax increases; Parrish says that Lubbock County voters want annual tax increases because paying more every year equates to “good government.” Frankly, if you listen to all of Parrish’s language in the court hearings, he speaks as a Progressive Democrat.

They’re back again in Lubbock: Same overfunded people claiming the city needs a Visitor Center and justifying such by how many visitors are coming regularly . If they already come then why do you need a glorified free bathroom facility for them? They’re already there! It’s like spending big money to reinstall payphone boxes all over town.

The news of Texas covered today includes:
Our Lone Star story of the day: Texas scores a huge, $1.4 billion, settlement victory with Meta (Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, etc) over data privacy but there is so much more that needs doing. Google is monitoring Gmail and it’s Googlegroups for political speech it doesn’t like and, the Chinese communists are mapping our infrastructure and gaining intel through apps the likes of which no one has ever seen . Texas has the tools to fight, and is doing so, but needs to do even more.

Episode 3529: Poll: Texas school choice preferred even if anti-arguments are true | Lubbock’s art mob & funding – Pratt on Texas 7/29/2024

Info (Show/Hide)
The news of Texas covered today includes:
Our Lone Star story of the day: Darn it! The anti-school choice crowd is getting frustrated in Texas. They can’t even design a big poll that skews results to opposing school choice! In the latest attempt pollsters found that even when respondents agree with anti-school choice arguments those same folks still favor school choice . Read it yourself here .
By the way, the poll and the Tribune story are an example of blatant propaganda that is common today. Both use the term “voucher” because that word is used by opponents of school choice and has been well demonized. Texas’ proposed program is not a voucher program but one using educational savings accounts. Vouchers are actual things.

The news of Texas covered today includes:
Our Lone Star story of the day: As predicted , Democrats fall in line with Willie Brown’s lover to be that broken political party’s nominee for President. What about all that “democracy” they change about? What about nominating a candidate who actually fixes the problem the party had with Biden? Episode 3524: What will Texas Dems do at national convention? | Secret Service lied, gave Trump less protection – Pratt on Texas 7/22/2024
2024/07/22
Info (Show/Hide)
The news of Texas covered today includes:
Our Lone Star story of the day: With Joe Biden out of the the re-elect race, announced on X by the way , what will Texas delegates to the Democrat convention do? I speculate that there is so little authentic thought diversity (factions) in today’s party that there is little chance of any real showdown between factions – they’ll follow the far Leftist agenda whether or not it’s good for them electorally . For example, why would a Democrat delegate want to pick a nominee (Harris) with a worse record than Biden on the border chaos when that issue is top of polling as a concern? And yet, that’s exactly where Willie Brown’s ex-lover is – worse than Joe Biden .

After lying to the American public from top levels , the U.S. Secret Service now admits Trump campaign’s request for more security . The damnable fact that opens all this up to conspiracy ideas is this : “Trump was receiving a lesser level of protection afforded to former presidents and major party presidential candidates when 20-year-old gunman Matthew Thomas Crooks opened fire at the Republican presidential nominee’s campaign outdoor rally in Pennsylvania last Saturday.”

2024/07/19
Info (Show/Hide)
The news of Texas covered today includes:
Our Lone Star story of the day: The Texas Tribune has a big “social justice” story out on Lubbock and it’s full of half truths, utter ignorance, and even a lie or two. There are many things ignored by these people, the biggest of which is that people can choose to live anywhere they want and choose to build any type of house they want, and thousands upon thousands do so in Lubbock – of all races, creeds, and ethnicities. Also missed is how freeways run through South, Southwest, West, and Northwest Lubbock too so, why are those not racist constructs? Why are people in the newest areas wanting and waiting on a new freeway, an outer loop? So much of these ideas presented are solely constructs of victimhood that pretty much all this group advocates should be ignored.

Our Lone Star story of the day: Texas’ RINO’s, Democrats, and big businesses, especially TAB, often claim that conservative pro-family and decency legislation (those “social” issues) will hurt business in the Lone Star State. However, the last decade has shown the opposite and now two of the world’s most renown firms are moving to Texas because of a lack of pro-decency governance. If a very slightly sloped barn roof is too big of a “safety” issue for the Secret Service then we don’t need this particular agency because it will have become worthless from a practical sense. Info (Show/Hide)
The news of Texas covered today includes:
Our Lone Star story of the day: Man was I right?! CenterPoint, and Entergy to a lesser extent, are becoming the public scapegoat for the unpleasantness following weak Hurricane Beryl. Interestingly, the Houston Police Dept. did not even think it needed to go on full mobilization until 24 hours after the hurricane hit and I agree with them, it wasn’t needed.
Clearly the move up and East for landfall made it very difficult to have private sector crews stationed in the right places. And, let’s think about the criticism that would have come from the same quarters if the storm had rapidly intensified and recovery crews and their had become casualties.

The news of Texas covered today includes:
Our Lone Star story of the day: President Biden woke up long enough to do an “exclusive” interview with the leftwing Houston Chronicle in which he claimed he had tried hard but could not reach Governor Abbott or Lieutenant Governor Patrick about FEMA relief for Hurricane Beryl. It is a lie and also, we haven’t needed the FEMA supplies yet .
Also, a review of the media shows that CenterPoint is being branded, rightly or wrongly, the scapegoat for problems with the hurricane . There is much more than the story I provided but I have to laugh at the idea that their online outage map is such a big deal. Yes, it is nice to have but it has nothing to do with how quickly the firm works to get power back on. We didn’t even have such things a few years back and yet today, you’d think an outage map was the central issue to saving lives and property – it’s preposterous.

Info (Show/Hide)
The news of Texas covered today includes:
Our Lone Star story of the day: I read and marked up the full 119 pages of the Presidential immunity, Trump v. United States, decision from the U.S. Supreme Court today . It is NOT what liberal Leftists, politicians and press, say. Nor is it a free pass to Donald Trump as some early conservative leaning outlets implied . The ruling is a Separation of Powers ruling and is mostly what all Americans considered to be the case for over 200 years.

Trump vs. Biden debate a debacle for Democrats. Here is a bit of particular good review:
Trump ‘fired up, on a mission’ after debate victory – Washington Examiner
Joy Reid: The debate reaction among Democratic operatives is ‘approaching panic’ – Washington Examiner – it tells us much about liberals, at high levels, that this is news to them given that it can be seen in almost every Biden appearance. The news of Texas covered today includes:
Our Lone Star story of the day: A fine from the so-called Texas Ethics Commission of Harris County’s leftist Judge Lina Hidalgo demonstrates well how political and UN ethical is the body that parades around with ethics in its name. All it takes is a comparison of Hidalgo’s fine, for doing something that is also a Class A misdemeanor in the state’s Penal Code , to that handed down to a local pastor who ran for office in Abilene . Unethical, capricious, and disgusting. The TEC should be done away with in the Sunset process next year and reformed with a proper name such as the Office of Campaign Finance Rules.

More of that “rare” election fraud found in Texas, this time in Bee County . Funny how we find so many cases but the Left claims it is so rare as to not be a significant matter.

The Texas Supreme Court rightly upholds Texas abortion law and in the opinion counters the constant lie found in media reports pushed by the pro-abortion crowd. “Under the Human Life Protection Act, a woman with a life-threatening physical condition and her physician have the legal authority to proceed with an abortion to save the woman’s life or major bodily function, in the exercise of reasonable medical judgment and with the woman’s informed consent,” Justice Jane Bland wrote in the majority opinion.

Episode 3479: Ignoring culture wars is recipe for disaster, DEI as an example | Ballots not secret? – Pratt on Texas 5/23/2024
2024/05/23
Info (Show/Hide)
The news of Texas covered today includes:
Our Lone Star story of the day: A Texas Senate hearing showed how horrible it is for legislators to ignore the culture wars. All tax and regulatory policy, through the reps elected by voters, ultimately flows from the culture and that must be remembered.
The hearing showed that DEI is “deeply embedded” in the personal and world view of Texans in our colleges. I posit that such couldn’t happen just at college; they must also be experiencing such in public school before college. Read this coverage of the hearing from Sherry Sylvester and then you should realize that ignoring culture/social issues is a recipe for failure for Republicans and disaster for our country.

Episode 3478: Israel proves fallacy of DEI | FERC pushes policy that imperils all electric grids, raises electricity costs – Pratt on Texas 5/22/2024
2024/05/22
Info (Show/Hide)
The news of Texas covered today includes:
Our Lone Star story of the day: Israel proves the fallacy of DEI and CRT fundamentals and of Progressive political ideology and that’s why progressives so hate the Jewish state outside of issues of antisemitism. It’s never been put better and more succinctly than in this piece: Why progressives hate Israel .
“In other words, Israel is a threat because it challenges the tenets of modern progressive dogma. It is easier for them to believe instead that Israel’s successes – its stellar human rights record, its diverse and vibrant democracy, its flourishing economy – are somehow due to thieving and immorality than it is to admit that triumph over adversity is possible on a personal, national and cultural scale.”
This links directly with the fraud of DEI that has now been shown to have been a major cancer in our Texas state institutions .

Our Lone Star story of the day: Has your insurance company blamed skyrocketing rates on “global warming” to the media? Like with most such claims, the data doesn’t support the assertion . Info (Show/Hide)
The news of Texas covered today includes:
Our Lone Star story of the day: The Biden Administration, through the IWBC, is claiming that it owns Texas’ Fronton Island in the Rio Grande from which drug cartels were working their evil . Texas secured the island from the cartels but Biden’s folks now want Texas to remove its work and effectively hand it back over to the cartels. It makes you wonder if the administration, like that of Mexico, is now directly working to help the murderous cartels. Suing over ownership is one thing, but demanding Texas remove barriers and other works which stopped the island from being a cartel asset raises serious questions.

2024/04/25
Info (Show/Hide)
The news of Texas covered today includes:
Our Lone Star story of the day: State Rep. Carl Tepper (HD84) joins us to discuss a major story out today from ProPublica and the Texas Tribune which shows that school districts are not complying with the law that says local governments must post candidate campaign finance reports online. Of the 35 districts spot checked, NONE, were complying with the law and worse yet, it seems many candidates in local elections haven’t even been submitting campaign finance reports.

Press reports what many of us already knew: Wind, solar, and battery on the Texas ERCOT power grid could cause “immediate catastrophic grid failure.” This report is about the inverters these vendors use and how such systems have simply tripped off-line putting the entire grid in danger.
More on the arrests and breaking up of the Anti-Israel, pro-Hamas demonstrations at UT Austin.
Lynn County hospital district bond issue: A Pratt on Texas Listener Club member has provided me with the hospital’s latest audit which showed “material” and “significant” weaknesses in its accounting.

The news of Texas covered today includes:
Our Lone Star story of the day: Lubbock faces a pro-marijuana use proposition (Prop. A) on the May 4th ballot. What of all the libertarian and other promises of the benefits of legal weed? Three words: Up in smoke. Read: Americans are watching legal weed’s promise go up in smoke .

The Texas Supreme Court has issued a temporary block on Harris County’s lottery-style “guaranteed income” welfare scheme . The Attorney General is right about the unconstitutional nature of the program but many believe, and I’m one of them, that the same prohibition makes our “economic development programs” questionable too. There is nothing charitable about forced charity.

Episode 3456: Removal effort of Travis Co. DA not GOP-tied | Lubbock’s pivot point election – Pratt on Texas 4/22/2024
2024/04/22
Info (Show/Hide)
The news of Texas covered today includes:
Our Lone Star story of the day: Travis County’s far-left, Soros-backed, district attorney could be the first to face possible removal under last session’s HB17 . And despite the Lefty DA claiming it’s all “MAGA Republican” partisanship, it turns out that the petitioner appears motivated by her experience with the DA’s office on a sexual assault case in which she was the victim .

Lubbock is facing a big mayoral election that will either further empower the tax and spenders and those who think their business deals more important than the property rights of working citizens or, will restore fiscal discipline and trust in fairness at City Hall.
When combined with the pro-marijuana use proposition on the ballot, this election could be the pivot point of a generation in Lubbock sending the state’s largest strong Republican vote city into the abyss of urban Leftism. On the other hand, if voters install true conservative leadership at City Hall and reject, by a wide margin, the pot-prop the city could add years to its success in not falling down the urbanism slide to leftism.

Our Lone Star story of the day: Lubbock is facing a big mayoral election that will either further empower the tax and spenders or, will restore discipline and trust at City Hall. I talk with candidate for mayor Mark McBraye r about the issues including why big money developers are working to elect his tax raising opponent.
(By the way, McBrayer properly, in his own, requested air time the way all candidates must . No other Lubbock mayor candidate has wanted to appear on the show and some are even afraid to appear at local forums! I’m always amazed at people who run for office but are afraid to be questioned.)

Texas sets more employment records , unemployment rate falls .
Oil and gas rig count goes up by 2 this week in the Baker Hughes report .
Two stories from the stench-of-local-government stack:
Fort Worth cancels community center reservation for groups holding event discussing the dangers and tragedy of the transsexual movement. It’s a 100% viewpoint, speech content, move by Cowtown.
City of Kerrville passes an ordinance requiring a government license to engage in electioneering – like block walking or passing out political material. On the face of it this is blatantly un-American!
